: CB antenna bracket
Reineke 07-12-2005, 02:01 AM I have the one that attatches on the front left fender and comes up through the cowl and is in the same place as the AM/FM antenna, just on the drivers side coming in the mail. Did you guys that have this antenna up front have to make a hole in the firewall, or is there one there already?:help2:
CStone 07-12-2005, 08:26 AM I made another hole in the firewall, simply because the connector on the coax was so frickin' huge. After I fed the cable through, I slit a nice fat grommet and filled up the hole.

This is supposed to match up and look like matching antenna's,,,correct??? Where did you get it and please let us know how it turns out?
Gruffid 07-12-2005, 05:18 PM go to GMDieselTech.com, it's on the home page. It looks fine (I like it), you do have to drill a hole through the plastic corner cowl piece, though.
Reineke 07-12-2005, 11:46 PM Thanks for the help guys. I really wasn't looking forward to adding a hole on the firewall... anyway. Where is the best place to pick up a gromet? I know what they are, just never bought one before.
T-Rex 07-13-2005, 12:01 AM Given the interest in this...
Someone should take pictures and do a write-up on this for the DIY forum.

Most auto parts stores should have them. I know for a fact that Napa has them. Dunno if you have Napa stores there though.
Reineke 07-13-2005, 01:11 AM Yup! We got those! Thanks!
Gruffid 07-13-2005, 06:50 PM As far as plumbing the wires, there's an area in the firewall above the accellorator. From the inside, there's a thin, black, plastic piece. If you pull on it - it may need some help - but there's a perforated circle that you can take out. From there, you'll see the metal firewall with a dimple. Start drilling with a sheet metal step bit on the dimple. They tell me that the hole is for the snow plow package, and that if you get the snow plow package, the hole is 1 5/8" (or 1.625"). So, if you want, you can make the hole the same size and you can get the grommet from your stealer - just tell him what size you want.
Reineke 07-13-2005, 11:42 PM I saw that place you were talking about, and was planning the install through that area. Thanks for the confirmation that this was the best spot. It all goes in tomorrow. Cobra 18WXSTII with the antenna bracket and a firestik antenna. I hope for an easy install.
deadfurrow 07-14-2005, 01:28 AM If you have enough antenna cable, you can run it up through the parking brake cable grommet. No drilling required.
minisub 07-14-2005, 08:55 AM Regardless of what you need, run 18' of coax with no tight coils; you'll tune up better.

Give us some pics when you're done. I'd especially like to see the antenna mount. :grd:
Reineke 07-15-2005, 04:36 AM Well, it is intalled. I used the space that was allowed for the snow plow package. Fairly easy install. Did more hacking on the truck than was planned, it's just plastic, right? I used 18' of coax and it tuned great! I will get pics of everything, should have taken pics during the install, when the sun comes up. Stay tuned!
Reineke 07-15-2005, 03:37 PM Well, here are the pics I promised. The first is how the antenna looks from a small distance. The second is where the antenna came through the plastic cowl. The next two are the brackets mounted to the fender bolts. Then comes the hole made for the coax. There is a grommet, a dime, and some RTV in there. Finally, my CB unit. Any questions, let me know!
