: Nitto 295s on H2 wheels
TEXMudder 07-12-2005, 01:18 AM Mounted up some Nitto TerraGrappler ATs on my H2 wheels tonight. Cranked the bars 10 turns, zip tied parking brake, trimmed bumper, and cut one piece of fender by the washer fluid. I was going to move the bumper out, but once I got to looking the trimming wasnt bad. Unless you were looking you wouldnt notice. It was only hitting the corner so all I trimmed off was the corner. The only thing I am not happy with right now is the center cap situation, but I will work on that later. Other than that it went well and looks great.
kimagine 07-12-2005, 01:31 AM Tex,
They look great. If you ever consider getting rid of the center caps(since you mentioned it) and going with a more solid look, let me know.
Thank you,
Mark
TEXMudder 07-12-2005, 01:37 AM Well I have to ask. Is it because you have a solution for me or because you want my PYO center caps? I have the H2 center caps and a set of grey GMC ones. The grey ones at least look like a closer match. It will take some experimenting.
number9 07-12-2005, 07:56 AM How much larger are the 295's over the 285/70? I thought the 285/H2 combo fit great on the trucks. Seems like you had to do a LOT of cranking/moving/trimming for the 295's?
TEXMudder 07-12-2005, 10:12 AM .5 inches taller and .39 inches wider. Why do you say I did a lot? The trimming was almost none which I was surprised at. The turning of the bars, well I had no clue about that as I have never done it before. Didnt seem like much modification to me.
YellaCat 07-12-2005, 11:41 AM Speaking of center caps. I just bought some of the gray H2's but I haven't picked them up yet. I'm a little concerned I won't like the chrome on gray look as well. What are my options?
Also I remember reading that the '05 PYO center caps maybe a little different and will not fit the H2's. Is this really the case? Hard to believe GM would make such a minor change........
TEXMudder 07-12-2005, 12:05 PM I cant see the 05s being that different. You can modify the grey ones to fit. I saw a post where the H2 caps were attached to the grey caps for a smooth look. I havent experimented yet. I am in plano so if you want to check out my setup I can meet you somewhere.

Your first post was....
Cranked the bars 10 turns, zip tied parking brake, trimmed bumper, and cut one piece of fender by the washer fluid.
And I guess I just read more into it. I was under the impression 285/H2 combo was a bolt-on, T-bar crank and go with no other clearance alterations needed.
So, they don't rub much then huh? Do you have any pics of the truck from a front/rear angle so it will show the width of the wheel/tire combo and how it looks under the truck?
TEXMudder 07-12-2005, 02:18 PM With the 285s I would assume you would have to do this stuff too but maybe not. I didnt get many pictures as it was late. I'll get more today.

Tex,
I wish I could say I had a solution, besides putting the H2 covers on there. It gives it a smoother look not to mention the vast change in contrast with the pyo caps on the gray wheels.
Then again since you have the gray GMC caps, I'd look at that but may also pose too much of a stand out. But, it is a personal opinion(and we all know about opinions:lol: )
And yes, if you are interested in getting rid of the chrome look caps, please keep me in mind and I hope you find the best look for your ride. Looks too good to have it thrown off by small stuff.

TEXMudder 07-12-2005, 09:53 PM Yeah I will mess with the greys and see what I can do.
TEXMudder 07-12-2005, 09:57 PM Changed out some of the night pictures above and added some in this reply too.
number9 07-12-2005, 10:08 PM Thank you very much for those pics. After some debate I think your pics have pushed me over the edge to look for some H2 wheels and mount 285's on them. :ro) Truck looks very nice.
TheBac 07-12-2005, 10:39 PM Nice truck!
YellaCat 07-12-2005, 11:01 PM I cant see the 05s being that different. You can modify the grey ones to fit. I saw a post where the H2 caps were attached to the grey caps for a smooth look. I havent experimented yet. I am in plano so if you want to check out my setup I can meet you somewhere.
Thanks! I think I'll take you up on that one of these days. I want to check out your cat back as well.
Do you track your fuel mileage? I would love to go with 285 or 295 tires but if it drops the mileage a couple points I would be pissed. With my current stock donuts I'm around 17mpg driving in all that nasty traffic between Little Elm and Farmers Branch where the office is. Probably just go with 265s on the H2 wheels, mines a 2wd anyway.
TEXMudder 07-12-2005, 11:49 PM Yes I do track mileage but only have a few on the new tires.
number9 07-13-2005, 03:50 PM Just curious TEX, what is distance from ground to your fenderwells? And what size are those tires - 295/??-17.
TEXMudder 07-13-2005, 04:04 PM 295/70/17. I will have to look at my notes when I get home.
