Different tires, less air than max in tires, weight in the back.

That's what I was going to say, run about 40 psi in the rear when empty.

I've got pretty much the same ? and was wondering if the Bilstein Shock Absorbers that many people are raving about ride that much better than the stock ones? DPS has em for $60 ea. Worth it?

They do seem to make a difference. So far on mine I noticed less bouncing.

Slow the *uc* down. Just kidding. This is another reason I've wanted a Hummer H1... that CTIS feature. To be able to air up/down on the fly has to the sh... well, you know what I mean. Throw a little weight in the box. Something heavy enough to be a PITA to grow legs; and doesn't slide about. Bags of sand or the like. I use them in the winter here. Just my $.02.

Shocks make a big difference. When new, my '94 3/4 ton would bounce terribly on the highway. The factory shocks had rebound damping but could be compressed with next to no pressure. Bilsteins cured the bounce and after 214K miles they still work fine. The '04 Duramax shocks were nearly as bad as those on the '94, and first thing I did was switch to Bilsteins. The ride improvement is noticeable.

I just installed Bilsteins on our truck (03 Chev X-cab 4X4 SB) and am very happy I did it! Noticeable difference empty and night-and-day better with the trailer. I was apprehensive about spending the money for shocks that 2-3X as expensive, but I would do it again!

After 30k miles on stock shocks I put on Bilsteins from Kennedy. I felt the ride had gotten worse both when towing and empty over bumps. Everyones raves are :exactly: correct. This was the best money I spent on the truck. It doesn't turn it into a cadillac but the dampening and control over bumps is night and day different.

1,000 lbs of dead weight in the bed does the trick. Mother-in-laws work great.

I just finished installing my Bilsteins, purchased from Kennedy also. What a difference over stock! It still rides like a truck but, a damned comfortable one. And control over the vehicle is much better. Even the steering feels a little tighter without so much body roll. If you go this route, I don't think you'll ever regret it. Definitely worth every penny.

When on gravel roads in mine and it will usually only do the hopping when pulling up a grade. If it starts that, I just pop in into 4 wheel drive until I get the hills cleared and all the hopping around stops. I learned this several years ago when the company was using Ford trucks and gave me a 1 ton 4x4 bruiser to use. They wised up in a few years and went to GM's, but I still had to spend several miserable years with that thing.:grd:

after reading so much about how everyone praises the bilsteins, i am thinking about going that route also. my only question is which ones should i get? i have the t-bars cranked on the front. should i go with the 2" extension, or will the stock ones work?
