: FSD Cooler Mounting

Just received a FSD cooler, with mounted PMD and extension harness from a fellow on one of the other forums. Entire unit has less than 15K mi on it, and the price was really right.

For now I have it mounted off the intake and am not using the extension harness. Really could use two longer bolts.

Ultimately - this weekend, maybe after cooling upgrades - I'd like to take the time and mount it between the driver's side battery and radiator core support as JK suggests in his Tech Tips area. Problem. One the hood release cable is somewhat in the way, and two the PMD is mounted with the connector "up" which also creates considerable interference. Question - can the PMD be safely removed from the cooler and reinstalled without any detriment? If so, any special precautions/procedure to follow? I think I can deal with the hood release cable, but rotating the PMD on the cooler 180* is a necessity as far as I can see. Without rotating the PMD, I can't get the assembly up high enough to be able to mount it othe core support.

I assume the PMD is mounted with the original 4 Torx15 screws?
I don't see why you couldn't just remove them and turn it around.

TDG, your assumption is correct. For some odd reason I have it stuck in my head that the surfaces of the PMD and cooler have 'contact cement' between them and that the surfaces would have to thoroughly cleaned and 'cement' reapplied.

wi65td If your extension is long enough to permit it, why don't you route through the bulkhead hole that is behind the drivers head light and mount it on the forward side below the light? It also depends on the highth of the cooler fins of course for room. If long enough drop down and put it just behind the bumper.

If there is goo in there it is heat sink compound (not an adhesive so it can be removed without damge) and I think radio shack or any computer geek place will sell it cheap

Wild Willy - good suggestion. I'll look into it (forward side below light) as an option when I get home this evening. Not sure that the 40" harness is enough to 'neatly' get to behind the bumper.

I have mine mounted beneath the driver's side battery tray - it extends out slightly to where it catches the "prop wash" from the fan shroud. That air apparently stays pretty cool as I have attached a Wal-Mart $ 10 external thermometer Probe on the PMD and it constantly shows about 10-20 degrees above ambient temperature. I live in south-central Texas, so that varies from 120 to 40 degrees, depending on the weather.
