ryanryan 06-14-2010, 01:56 AM WOW....those are some UNREAL welds!!! Can't wait to see it once everything is powder-coated/Line-Xed.
577cc 06-14-2010, 02:29 AM Where did you learn to weld so amazingly well? And, what kind of welder are you using?
AMAZING welds
not a fan of how much stuff is not covered by the bumpers though :(
Joey D 06-14-2010, 09:27 PM Clear coat the bumpers, it would be a waste to cover up those welds:D
Big Otis 06-15-2010, 01:30 AM thanks for the compliments guys. im pretty much a self taught welder.....but i have had the priviledge of hanging around and working with some bitchin welders over the years, both mig and tig.
as for the machine we i use, its a lincoln powernig 215.
CountryCorey 06-15-2010, 11:43 PM That is gonna be one awesome truck, you are a bad a$$ welder.

03SMURF 07-28-2010, 05:39 PM Have you posted this over on GMFS? Those welds look familiar, and still awesome.
woodchuck2 07-28-2010, 08:10 PM With welds like that you must be a talking robot ;), damn nice work!!

x2 those are some insane weilds
FROGMAN524 08-02-2010, 03:58 AM Just in case you forget, nice welding! Also, what kind of tires are those?
Big Otis 08-07-2010, 01:49 AM thanks guys. the tires are 37x12.5x17 goodyear non dot GSA's.
Jason_2500 08-13-2010, 03:31 AM So what weld setting were you using? what kind of wire? I am also a self taught welder and would like to think I have a pretty steady hand but I always get too much splatter to make it look like that. I have a Power Mig 255.
Big Otis 08-13-2010, 11:12 PM on our powernig 215 machines most of that was welded on D and 225. i ran it on E and 300 for all the 1/4" to 1/4" parts. D-225 is the most common setting for our machines for 90% of what we do everyday.
Big Otis 09-02-2010, 12:57 AM truck is finally back from the body shop. going to line-x soon.....then final assembly and wiring.

I don't understand why my work filter is blocking the first sets of pictures an not the last. It has never blocked any photobucket links before. I did finally get to see them while at home last night, and looks killer for sure!
primetime1 09-04-2010, 04:20 AM welds are awsome.

I wish I was stateside to be able to go. You will just have to come out to the Halloween run at Alto instead!!
swisstyphoon 09-05-2010, 06:23 AM awesome welds! the truck is gonna look badass.
Who makes those wide fenders?
colt49 09-05-2010, 10:07 PM Did you make provisions to jig up and fab a front clip package? That is a nice box setup too. You get the AAA+ on design and super fine fab on that truck. First class kit possiblities from a guess.
colt49 09-05-2010, 10:25 PM Big Otis PM me a price on that front bumper clip for an 06' classic with FB fenders. Will it go on a truck without mega changes? Just had to ask after seeing this deal. Thank you.
Big Otis 09-06-2010, 03:01 AM the front fenders are made by glassworks and are a 2" fender.
the rear bedsides are made by trailer products and are a 2" flair also.
the front bumper was a one-off piece and was not jigged. i have about 4 days of pure labor into designing/building that bumper as every piece was hand made. i guarantee another one would not be considered "cheap" lol...by most peoples standards.
HEEPJEEP 09-06-2010, 08:23 AM So what weld setting were you using? what kind of wire? I am also a self taught welder and would like to think I have a pretty steady hand but I always get too much splatter to make it look like that. I have a Power Mig 255.
The welds look like the "tack tack tack" method some people call it.
Here's a big thread on the method...

Easy to do. There are varying opinions on strength. Obviously depends on the welder who is doing the work as well.
colt49 09-06-2010, 02:05 PM Thanks for the run down on the fab work. You do nice work and it will sure be a nice finished truck. It has so many cool things most guys just go crazy on it's so much labor to make. Nice to see it's out there I'd buy one from a fabber if they were jigged and producing for sale items it's labor and marketing to fight to make it pay though in big lots. I have to say great job anyway and thanks for the time to talk on it........

FROGMAN524 09-07-2010, 03:38 AM Are you self taught at welding? Is your front end going to be coil-over?

No offense meant. Just saying that they "look like", didn't say they were ;). Glad to hear you do continuous, it's definitely the best practice for structural parts.
Fab work looks nice! Is the plate you are using A50 or A36, or both, etc?
Big Otis 09-07-2010, 10:16 PM all the plate being used for the most part is all P&O mild steel.....1/4", 3/16", and 1/8"....there is some 4130 plate here and there too on the truck.
and this truck will be keeping the torsions. i put the CST keys in allready along with our upper arm, heim steering, and shock package.
FROGMAN524 09-08-2010, 04:25 AM Do you use a Jig to make the parts like the spindles?
A1deerhunter 09-08-2010, 04:04 PM Man on those first pics I thought it was rebar tacked into place. Again great job on the welds.
badbowtie169 09-08-2010, 10:19 PM those are some sweet lookin welds.
Big Otis 09-09-2010, 12:32 AM yes all of our spindles or "uprights" as we call them are built in fixtures. and thanks for the compliments. truck is still at Line-X....waiting....
Big Otis 09-16-2010, 01:04 AM started puttin her together today!!

I have the same truck and a desert truck junkie... to bad I live in Indiana
Big Otis 09-22-2010, 12:47 AM the front fenders are from glassworks and are a 2" bulge.

SLT223 09-25-2010, 08:40 PM You are quite the fabricator, Sir.
Big Otis 09-26-2010, 12:56 PM thanks guys. the front axles will remain stock untill he starts blowin them up and we'll see.

colt49 10-05-2010, 08:15 PM First Class Work on this truck. No doubt it has a price but it shows in every detail the pride and skills you guys put in. For that customer it's XMAS man he took it home.
rkymtnman 10-11-2010, 02:56 PM WOW. 1000% IMPRESSIVE work. You sir, are a true craftsman.
Jefita1 10-15-2010, 04:43 AM Very sharp work. What is the duty cycle on that mig. You must have had her wound up on some of those longer welds.
colt49 12-20-2010, 07:14 PM I can't help but think a navy grey/fog camo paint job would really finish it nice for off road life and looks. Other trick look might be a cool blue with the lightning bolts like that Schieds trucks/dragsters have for that WOW look. Just like this truck keep coming at it after a month or more to see it again and where it went or did maybe.
semperfidoordie 12-20-2010, 07:19 PM Amazing!!
big-burb 02-02-2011, 02:49 PM I have tears of joy and envy........

Big Otis 03-22-2011, 03:10 PM we are in anaheim california.
dz302 03-22-2011, 07:40 PM Props to you on the fab work.....Nice Rig..........Now go and beat the livin ______ out of it..
Dive342 08-23-2011, 08:53 PM That is amazing work!!!
cbr600rx7 09-02-2011, 05:39 PM Some great looking work. But i would hate to see the price tag on this build.
