I never had one of the schuuk's or whatever brand bumpers but I knew a few people that had them. IMO, they weren't nearly as sturdy looking as the DMI's. If I remember correctly it used poly bushings to cushion rather than springs. I have the DMI receiver hitch and I really like it, although they should have put greasable rollers on it (like they did the old bumpers) rather than just a plastic pad for the drawbar to slide on.

Schuuk (or whatever) also makes a cushioned drawbar that will slide into your factory receiver hitch.

I've had DMI 1 on '83 350/TH350 and DMI 2 on '00 6.0/4L80. Got tired of running with the spare in the bed so with the '03 8.1/A and now '05 D/A I'm getting jerked around by hay and grain wagons. Looked seriously at the Shuck hitch but I think I'd have to remove the 7 pin connector to fit it and I'm afraid I'd be disappointed with anything but the DMI. JMHO

Deerefred,

You could try these:

http://www.airridehitch.com/
http://www.easyriderhitch.com/
http://www.bulletprooftrailers.com/catalog.htm

They all promiss to reduce shock, smoth out the ride in the cab and in the trailer.

Thanks for all the info.......DMI hitches still seem to be the most convenient and durable for my application.........can anyone tell me the site for DMI hitches as this old address I have doesn't work or at least they won't answer my emails.......where can i order one from??

i have the big and little shuuck hitch. the one that goes into the stock reciever. they dont move or anything(i think they have ones that move a little to help hook up to things. mine doesnt hit anything stock! i like it, and use it to pull big gravity wagons. the only thing i noticed is when using it to trailer something with a lot of tounge weight, it kinda will dip down a little. not bad just looks weird. havent used the little one yet but the big one works just as good as a dmi execpt it dont squeak!

Moss022: Yeah I was talking about the swing and extend model that looks like it would interfere with the 7 pin bracket. I called the factory and asked them to go stick one into a late model Chev. or GMC out in their lot. Said they didn't have one out there. Figured there must be something wrong with those workers, or they don't pay 'em enough... I'm still waiting to see one before I spend the $.

yes...iirc, they were not on the cheap side. cheaper compared to a new dmi, but still, not cheap

There is a local guy here that sells the hitch and mounting bracket for around $500, so you might want to check around on the prices because that is a good bit cheaper than the website posted previously.
