Guys, I just picked up my truck a couple of weeks ago, since I have had about 4 times when it has had trouble starting.

First time this happpend i went to start the truck and it just cranked over and nothing. I cycled the key and waited a few seconds. on the second attempt after 3 maybe 4 seconds it fired up.

2nd and 3rd time it just seemed to have to turn over a while before finally firing up. probably cranked for 4 or 5 seconds.

Today, the 4th time, it wouldnt start at all. I cranked on it for probaby 5-7 seconds and no start. waited a few seconds, cycled the key and cranked 5-7 seconds again.....nothing....

I popped the hood, pumped the fuel filter primer several times and then went and tried to start again. This time it started. Since then i have had it running twice and it seemed to be about normal starting times.

I've only had it for two weeks, unfortunately it is past the 3 yr warranty but it does still have the 100,000 duramax warranty. The dealer that I bought it from was a Dodge dealer, but did give me a 90 day / 3000 mile warranty. I have only put about 350 miles on this since I got it a couple of weeks ago. I'm not a happy camper that my 3 year old truck is having starting issue.

I'm looking for advice here guys. I'm planning on taking it in to have it looked at, but im still very curious as to what the heck is going on. This thing only has about 30,350 miles on it.

thanks and sorry for the long post.

A couple of things to add....
-im not getting any warning lights
-the DIC says i have 47% fuel filter life...i dont have any problems when it is running. Its not sluggish or anything.

it sounds like the pump is losing prime (getting air in it) with it shutdown. how long does it take for it to start hard?

It has been very inconsistant. Its happend a few times. the first three times, I was able to get it start up after some cranking as mentioned above. The last time which was today, i had to re-prime it. It started up fine this AM, shut it off and started it two or three times over the next couple of hours. It sat for approx 30-45 minutes and thats when it would start. I have not found any consitancy to it yet as it has only happend a few times. However this is a few to many for a truck with only 30K on it, in my mind.

Mine was acting like that and it was a cracked "water in fuel" sensor. Replaced and all is good

Check the fuel filter, mine used to do that. Check the housing, the ring, etc...

My 07 did the exact thing a week ago, it was close to the time for a new filter, I replaced the filter and the bleeder screw and WIF sensor(all were original). The truck has started fine since.;)

YUP! My 07 did the same thing. Some where you have an air leak in the fuel filter, bleeder screw "O" ring or WIF sensor. Pumping up the fuel primmer is your clue.
