Hey guys, I have noticed that my engine rattles ( kind of like Gasser pinging). It only happens from 1500 to 1900 RPM's no matter of speed or load on engine. It happens while driving normal and I can shift from 4th to 5th there by dropping the RPM's out of that range and it stops rattling till it gets back in that RPM range. It is hardly noticeable over the engine diesel sounds but you can pick it out if you listen for it. Any body got any ideas, bout this problem only please

Is your optic bumped? I noticed similair with my old pump bumped, mostly under light load not acceleration.

Nope Not bumped, but it seems to happen at that range reguardless of load

Does it seem driveline related like the nvg4500 perhaps is making the noise not the engine?
If not, could you elaborate on this pinging noise?

I think it's engine related. Seems to go away above 2000 RPM's in any gear at any speed any boost level. Sounds almost like a pinging rattlely kind of noise.
Oh BTW QM where is the heart of Texas again?

The heart of Texas?
It's either just north west of Austin or its a state of mind.
Perhaps it's a loose part that audibly vibrates only ~1800 rpm? Can someone hold the throttle at 1800 while you listen?

The crank pulley is about 5000 miles old, the balancer was not replacedand I have looked at it more than once. Might replace it just in case.

Sounds like muffler bearings but I see you have a straight pipe. Could be you need a round pipe. Straight pipes tend to reflect god awful sound resonances that at certain speeds reflect sound waves back and forth and can sometimes create all kinds of weird noises. Round pipes have no flat surfaces to reflect these sound resonances and seem to flow better synchronizations than straight pipes. Cylindrical tubes tend to reduce cyclical phenomena resonances. You'll even get better results if you curve the round pipe. Ever notice how top fuel dragsters curve thier round pipes. Never see straight pipes on one of them.

Hey Thanks for that break down there DP. I believe I have round and straight pipe but I will check to be sure.
Thanks again

I think, your hearing detonation clatter, and its normal.
Did you get fuel from a different place last fillup? Try a different fuel additive?

That maybe TDG and I will try to use the Fuel Additive more often
You get my PM?

I added some fuel additive and sounds mucho better now. Guess I should have figured that out myself.
Thanks everyone
