I got a 1993 chevrolet 3500 two door extended cab 4x4 6.5 turbo (mechanical motor). If i start my my tuck and let it sit and run or drive it for about an hour or two. Then i turn the truck off and go to start it back up my glow plug light won't come on. So i just tried to start it to see what would happen but all it did was turn over and over like it wasn't getting any fuel. I don't kno what it is.

the glowplugs dont come on when the engine is warm. the reason it wont start is a very very common problem with the DB2 injection pump. the internals get worn, then when its shut off and let cool for maybe 20 mins some internals shrink and others dont shrink as much so it doesnt make enough presure to fire off the cooler prechambers in the engine. a test to see if this is the culprit is as follows: run the engine untill its at operating temp. Then shut it off and let it cool for 20 mins or so. then try to restart it, if it wont start, go in the house and get some luke warm water. dump the luke warm water over the ip and try to start the engine, it should start right away. if it does, the ip is worn. a quick fix to this is usually wiring up a manual glowplug override switch. its a button( that is wired through a relay) that allows you to kick on the glowplugs for 5 or 6 seconds if the engine wont start, and it usually starts. the other fix is to replace the ip.

1 dump a quart of 30 wt oil in tank to thicken the fuel a bit.2 use a garden sprayer to mist the water on injection pump so as to not drown out some electrical stuff. It looks funny doing the misting in a mall parking lot, but gives you time to get a rebuilt pump at a reasonable price, IE $400.00 or less.

had same problem. cranking speed is important. there is a recomended minimum crank speed, I don't have it handy but you should be able to find it. Check both batteries and cable, voltage at the starter and starter.

Ok thanks. I ordered a rebuild GM Injection Pump but haven't got it yet. Do they make a rebuild kit for a Mechanical Injection Pump that you can buy at a parts store or do you have to buy it online?

nope, not that i believe + you have to calibrate it etc etc, jus because its not a DS4 doesnt mean it easier. It sounds to me like the rotor head is warped or going out as well.

I do not at all consider myself an expert but I was having similar problems with my truck which is the same exact model and configuration and it ended up being the (OPS) oil pressure sensor that I replaced today. I was about to just order a DS2 Inj. pump. Heres a link

wow its a good thing you posted this.. yesterday I went to help a friend move and my truck did the exact same thing. i had to let it sit overnight before it started.. No matter how long i cranked on the truck it wouldn't fire yesterday, but today i turned the key, waited on the glow plugs and she started right up.. which leads me to a question.
would it be better to do the glow plug override mod or the ECT "fooling mod"? right now i can't afford a new or rebuilt injector pump.

no bc it will only get worse, the head is warped or the seals inside are messed up. the DB2 IP isnt that exspensive. alot cheaper than a tow or serious breakdown on the road. To Remove the ip you take the plenum and Intake manifold off, losen all the injector lines, remove throttle+Cruise cables, and lastly i beileve is to remove the oil fill and CAREFULLY rotate the engine by a 15/16 breaker bar on the damper to access the 3 bolts and spring pin on the IP. losen any fuel lines as well that go to the IP

I am not sure I understand how leaving the glow plugs on longer would have any impact, has anyone seen evidence of this? The issue is the fuel is too thin at hot temps for the worn out or warped seals in the pump. I don't thinking heating up the pre-combustion chamber on an already hot engine would have much effect.

Also, does anyone think running ultra low sulphur diesel without an additive could accelerate the wear? My Dad's truck started doing this and I don't think he has been using an additive, he told me he's going to hook up a washer motor to spray water on it, that should be interesting, but probably an ok quick fix I suppose until he gets around to changing the pump
