I want my diesel to have more power. And I like smoke so that is no downside. I am going to turn up the pump and advance the timing a bit. All I do is tighten the allen down on the IP about 1/4 to a 1/2 turn and then turn the whole IP to 2 degrees btdc correct? If I turn the pump up a little more will that hurt anything. I would like it to smoke when I step on it.

Increasing roller to roller dimension actually advances your timing at WOT. So if your not having late timing related problems, I would just give the leaf spring screw a little twist and not mess with the static timing.

Your dealing with a N/A engine, so there is a limit to how much air you can cram in there, once you get as much fuel as you have air to burn, the rest will come out as black smoke, and a half turn will give you A LOT of black smoke.

do anything you can to open up the air flow. get rid of restrictive air muffler and increase the air duct size.

you wont be cramming it in but it will breathe cold air as much as possible.

get less restrictive exhaust to match.

turn up IP to have light smoke under WOT..or more if you want. kinda wasteful if too much, but cool...as long as nothing blows up.

then post a kill story!

I turned the pump up 3/8th's of a turn. Wow is this cool. It smokes once you go over 3/4 throttle. And it will stay smoking. I had it smoking yesterday for almost a mile before I left off. I think I had just about hit the governor too w/ 4.56's and 37's. You can feel a bit of a power gain too. The other thing I noticed is now when I put it in gear or switch from drive to reverse or visa versa it will shift hard. I am assuming this is because I have turned up the idle by turning up the IP. NOw I did not advance my timing at the same time. Should I have done that? Is there a way to lower the idle so it wont shift so hard or is that fine. Info on my truck is as follows

86 k30
6.2 J code N/A (not N/A for long I hope)
9400 miles
t400
14BFF w/ 4.56's/ detroit
37x12.5x17 MTR's

Next is 3" duals w/ 3" 40 series flowies and 39.5x13.5x17 IROCKS

Go Flowmasters but 2.5 inches actually gives you the right pressure to make it both sound and run good!!!

There's a 5/16" or flat head screwdriver Low Idle Screw on the throttle lever of the pump. If you have a Tach, back it off to about 700. Also, check to make sure the Cold Fast Idle solenoid isn't binding up holding the throttle lever in Fast Idle.

Be carefull with those long runs with lots of black smoke, you are wasting fuel at the expense of high EGT's, bad things can follow:eek:
