: Why no 2wd class?

Hey guys.

I was wondering why there is no 2wd class for stock or just slightly modified trucks? I have a 2wd and would love to come pull with you guys but there is nothing for us. I think it would be great cause it also gives the 4wd guys a chance to compete in two classes if they want. Maybe hold the 2wd class after the 4x4 so anyone that pulled in the 4x4 class that wants another stab at it can pull in the 2wd class. If there was enough interest maybe we should all contact dhra and see if they will carry the class.

Thanks John Kruckeberg

I think you would be very disappointed with a 2wd truck in front of a sled, cc.....4wd is a huge advantage in sled pulling...
Now, if you were to make a 2wd modified truck with a duramax and pull with the NTPA..THAT would be sweet!!

How would it be disapointing? Of course you would have to reduce the weight to make the 2wds pull anywhere close to the 300 ft mark but I think it would be just as exciteing as the 4wd classes!! And yes it would be very cool to put in a moded duramax in my truck and pull with the big boys, but us young bucks that are still in college cant really afford that and would like to have a class to pull in too. And just incase you didn't realize what I was talking about if the 4wd guys wanted to enter the 2wd class they would have to pull in 2wd! haha

2wd's have no class!

:D

Seriously, a 2WD could be competitive if set up right. Big rear tires, hanging weights, and stiff rear suspension. Possibly allow 2WD's to run 30" hitch height as well.

I mean I know im not going to win anything with a 6.5L TD but I would atleast like to hook in a class where I want totally get my feelings hurt! lol Im no pulling expert but wouldn't you want all the weight in the rear of the for a 2wd? Maybe the dhra will let the 2wd guys run the weight diff between a 4x4 and a 2x4 in the bed of the 2wd? Plus give us a heigher hitch height? Maybe they should use my truck as a test truck! :-P haha

When you pull forward, the sled chain pulls the rear end down. If you had enough HP and traction, the front end would come off the ground.

The higher the hitch point, the harder the sled pulls down on the back. It would be fairly easy to determine the correction between 4x4 and 2x4. Take a 4x4, and have it pull in 4wd High 1st. Then up the hitch height and try it in 2wd 1st.

Well being so long my truck would never have the power to pull the front tires on the out dated 6.5L. But I sure would love to pull in a truck pull one day with ol' betsy!

I have been to a few pulls that let 2 wheel drives pull in the gas classes and when they raise the hitch up to 30 inches or higher they will suprise you. When the front end comes off the ground they hook up pretty good. These were older trucks though and not factory two wheel drives. They were old four wheel drives with the front disconected so they still had low range. They were also all gas trucks.

Yea that is very cool, but I doubt that will ever happen with my crew cab long bed dually with that heavy diesel on the front and only making about 280hp! lol

What I meant was, if the sled is set up the same way as it is with the 4x4 trucks and the rules are the same (ie drawbar height can't be raised) you'd be dissapointed with your pull..
You might try going to a few local pulls and ask the sled operator if you can hook your truck to his sled for an exhibition pull....get a hitch made that is in the 28" to 30" area and give it a try :) sled pulling is a riot, that I can tell you for certain..

Yea that would be cool, but there is hardly any truck pulls in my area. Maybe I will keep a look out and go to one and see if I can't get laughed at! haha
