: ,New' ride
Just to let you know, due to the road tax issue, I've had to aquire a new ride :( I decided to spent as little money as possible this time because nobody knows what they will come up with next to immobilize the people, thus I bought a 1993 Mercedes 300D with 150kkm on it. The 300D is a 3l I6 --- afaik that version has never been sold in the US. It's rather small, but still a comfortable ride, and I'm getting about 41.4mpg.
My beautifull truck is still standing in front of the door, but about to be sold, and I'll badly miss it.

Well, I'm somewhat minded to keep it, but I must get it off the road in front of the door. So I would have to find some shelter for it for an unforseeable amount of time, probably at least 1/2 year. And then, I'd very likely have to face the same problem as of now, i. e. having to pay ridiculous amounts of road tax for it each year.
I might be able to get a Dodge RAM 3500 or a 2500 with a long bed once the tax issues become clear, but then, it would cost about EUR 17500--20000 and become worthless after some months or a year or two once our crazy politicians invent something else to immobilize the people.
It's a very sad story, however I put it.
TurboTahoe 07-11-2005, 02:20 PM Lee, that truly is a sad story. I'm sorry to see personal liberties eroded, such as what vehicle you can own. By the way, what do you mean by 'self-washing truck'?
Sincerely,
Rob
94blazer6.5 07-11-2005, 02:20 PM I hate to hear that you might have to give up the truck because taxes. I'm sure we can make some room here in Texas for you if want to move, but I'm sure that's easier said than done. Good luck, hope you the best.

Yes, that's what they do, take away more and more of the peoples liberties. You still can drive a Tahoe and such, but it can get ridiculously expensive just because of the taxes.
I'm still undecided. I don't have enough time to sell before my holiday trip, so I'll need to find a better place to park my truck anyway. And I won't get very much for it, anyway, so I could as well keep it until things become clear. But it doesn't do the truck any good when standing still ...
By the way, what do you mean by 'self-washing truck'?
lupey6.5 invented that :) See here: http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20396&highlight=washer+nozzles
Later, the tubing going to the washer nozzles started to leak again. I took the water tank out to replace it, starting at the pumps. The pumps more or less fell apart, and I replaced them, but either I must have made a stupid mistake whith the wiring, or the replacement pumps are just too weak. During the two years I own the truck, the wipers and washers did work as they should only for two months or so ...
Iconically, the Mercedes has an intermittently working interval, so these thinks don't work as they should there, too. But I think it can be fixed by replacing a relay, so it should be easy enough.
Unless you have to drive around with a non-working windshield-cleaning-system for some time, you never realize how important it is.

Well, thanks :) I would gladly move if it were only half as easy as said.
Actually, I already checked out Canada and Australia, but I won't get a sufficient score for immigration. Just a few points are always missing.
