GM sent out this teaser on Media Reviews for 2011 HD. Mags cannot post their articles until June 14. They only listed the good things. I'm sure the mags will have a more objective review.

First Media Drive for Silverado/Sierra HDs
Chevrolet and GMC showed off the Silverado and Sierra HDs during a media drive this week in western Maryland. Sixty-two journalists participated in two days of driving. Upon their arrival to Rocky Gap Lodge, media were paired with subject matter experts and were given a brief introduction to each truck. The next morning the crew took off on a route with 12 HDs (six GMC and 6 Chevrolet’s) in various model configurations while pulling four varying weights of trailers (two campers, a horse trailer and a construction trailer) with various weighted payloads.

Maryland’s roads offered nice elevations with hills and grades, allowing the media to test both the 6.0L V8 gas and 6.6L V8 turbo Diesel/Allison Transmission, including new features such as trailer sway control, smart exhaust brake, hill start assist and GM’s new larger brakes. The journalists were very complimentary about the location choice and product offerings to test product capabilities. During the afternoon session, competitive products – 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 and 2011 Ford F250/F350 – were added to the mix to test and compare exhaust braking, trailer sway, acceleration, ride and handling and fuel economy. Media impression coverage begins June 14.

Some quotes from the media:
· GM’s exhaust brake is the best of the three (Ford/Dodge competitive comparison).
· Great brakes . . . nice handling.
· 6.0 Gas engine vs. Ford 6.2L is very close or on par.
· Well integrated exhaust brake; much better than the Ram and less noisy.
· The Ford is noisier – makes you think you’re going fast, but you’re not. Chevy is much quieter.
· I like the brakes. They’re there right away, and if I need more they’re right there, too.
· You’ve got the Ford beat on ride quality, that’s for sure.
· I can’t even tell I am carrying something.
· Good improvement on steering, feels like you got it right.

Interesting that they would say the GM 6.0L is on par with the Ford 6.2L. I would think 25 or so h.p. would be noticeable. Could be the GM truck is still lighter than the Ford, or maybe since Ford is using the same transmission behind their gas and diesel engine, the ratios and torque convertor stall are optomized for a diesel. Glad to see the ride is still better than the Ford's. I was thinking with the front suspension upgrade GM would have sacrificed some ride quality. Guess not!

Ride quality is subjective and anyhow if you crank up the torsion bars on a GM enough to not drag the front air dam when a winch/bumper or snow plow is installed it will ride worse than any Ford.

well I think I might be comparing green apples to red ones, but on our 1500 burb we cranked the torsion bars and it still rides great??? Yeah there are shock issues, but not a huge deal

That problem is taken care of with the revised front suspension.
