I'm thinking of putting an exhaust brake on my truck. The only time I really need it is when going down a long winding hill or when I'm stuck behind someone. I figure I can put it in manual 3rd and engage the brake manually as needed. I was thinking of getting a gear vendors (used). Will it hurt the catatalitic converter having the pressure and heat build up and then let off fast. Would it have any effect on the variable turbo? Can you forsee any other possible problems other than warranty on the allison.

Instead of a butterfly valve, you would be better off with a turbo brake, or such product that restricts the exhaust using the turbo itself. Both types of brakes cost about the same but with the butterfly valve you have to cut pipe to install, wire it..... it's a lot of hassle. Braking through the turbo is usually a control module plugged into the truck's ECM and you have a control switch, and that's it. And in the end you have the same result.

I've tuned the turbo brake into my truck with efi live and its wicked! No need for brakes until about 20mph.

Does anyone have anything on the BD Exhaust Brake? I am not a fan of the turbo brake. The turbo brake is a little foreign to me. Also, when the Exhaust brake engages is it loud or quiet? I usually drive through DC and need to know about engine noise. Personally I hope its loud as can be so I can piss off some of these damn clowns who stare.
Something about a 4WD lifted Diesel with Hank Williams Jr. playing and my 120lb black lab in the bed cause city folk to stare lol

I have a BD exhaust brake on my '06 Duramax. I pull a 14,000lb 5th wheel, and I use the brake on most downhill grades. It woks excellent, and their is no extra noise.

Cool, Thanks man. I was looking to get one when I change over to a complete 4" exhaust with a single stack.

If you are planning to get the efilive.(says so in your sig)just save your money. That is how you do the turbo brake.
The turbo brake,or exhaust brake are not loud. Its not like a jake brake on a big rig.Its more like holding your foot aginst the tail pipe.
