: Finally got a turbo, critique my pull!
remington_43040 06-08-2010, 10:05 PM Here is the pull I went to last weekend, first time with the new hitch and turbo. It was a big pull and I got my A$$ handed to me but I guess I did alright for what I have done. I've got a Silver Bullet 66mm, I think I needed to launch harder. This is my first pull with an aftermarket turbo and it felt good going down the track and looks decent on the video, but I do not get moving near as fast as the rest of the guys and that is hurting me. Obviously I was the only guy in the class not running dual fuelers besides the white crew cab chevy a few spots after me (dearthr on here, he just got a new turbo also). I am the pewter 02 at around 3:46. I'm running half worn 285 Goodyear MT/R's on stock PYO's. I heard after the pull that there was a sinkhole on the right side of the track and I definitely hit it because I felt the truck go sideways at about 200 feet. All of the big names that know what is going on were hugging the left side of the track. I know that hurt me but I don't know how much.

remington_43040 06-08-2010, 10:34 PM Plenty of guys looking at this, I appreciate all comments. Don't care if they are supportive or destructive. I need to pull better and that is all that matters.
irish yankee 06-08-2010, 11:09 PM its not cheating unless you get caught;):D
bricklef 06-08-2010, 11:35 PM I dont know how to improve your pulling but I'd sure like it if you would keep posting videos of the pulls you go to! That's 5 hrs of pulling condensed into 10 minutes with being able to watch it in airconditioning and cheap beer!!!!!!!:D

x2 that was friggin great!
it might help if you'd give us some insight as to your setup, programming, and data logging etc?
remington_43040 06-09-2010, 08:43 AM Pretty much everything is in my sig, hung about 1K off the front, blocked solid, have traction bars, custom hitch and receiver right at 26", big EFI tune (didn't log that pull), Silver Bullet turbo, lift pump, stock injectors, modded LB7 regulator. I think that is about it. I didn't take this video, but I agree that it is very nice.
Duranut03 06-09-2010, 08:51 AM Thanks for the video. Yeah that sinkhole killed you.
Papuller86 06-09-2010, 11:04 AM well first off deffently need traction i would even get a wider set of rims like a 9 inc rim, did u lower your pressure and if so to what psi, also u said u need to leave harder, well i would try not leaving harder just better, try building boost at the line as much as u can untill the point where your breaks will not hold u anymore, and then ease into it and at about 30 feet put it to the floor,
remington_43040 06-09-2010, 12:44 PM I'll try that for the launch next time. I know my tire setup isn't optimum, but the tires are still too good to drop $1400 on new tires and wheels. I do have 16x8's I think on my other truck that I thought about swapping over, I don't know if 1.5" wider is enough of a change to be worth it. I was running about 42# rear and 25# in the front. I can't go any lower in the front with all of that hanging weight, I actually split one of my tires a little bit at that pull.
06SIXSPEEDMANUAL 06-09-2010, 03:48 PM That was a nasty track, I too fell victum to the sink hole:eek:. it's a little off topic but my wife has a video of your hook as well as a whole bunch of pulling vids on her youtube. Her user name is Girlwithdmax, Here's a link to her vid of The National Trails pull http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zTCZp2ZEKA
Farmer Dave 06-09-2010, 04:31 PM You did great considering the trucks you are running against. I'm assuming quite a few had built motors along with dual CP3's.
Papuller86 06-09-2010, 10:37 PM x2 it wasent a bad pull considering what he was up against, maybe u just fell victom to the sink hole, it seems like u are running a good set up, u seem like u know what your doing
remington_43040 06-10-2010, 09:54 AM Yeah I wasn't too disappointed, mainly I need to figure out how to launch with the new turbo and read the track better. I've got a pretty good grasp on setup. Does anybody know if switching to a 16x8 wheel from stock will be worth my trouble while running 285's?
bogger 06-10-2010, 11:54 PM width is always a good thing!
Chris611 06-12-2010, 11:52 PM I think you did good for what you've got. Do you have a front locker? I'd say that would help. I see in one other post that you have stock injectors. Don't know for sure, but would assume those other dmax's don't have stock injectors. I think your setup was good, just got out horsepowered and traction. It's a proces, keep at it and you will be competing head to head with those guys.
Good luck
Chris
SmokeShow 06-13-2010, 09:19 PM I'm with the others in saying that you just need to build boost before launching. Other than that, you are doing as good as you can with what you have. Not to burst your bubble, but you aren't going to run with the likes of Evan Davis and Matt Gainer and Rocky Roark with a single CP3 setup. You can see that you just don't have the fuel needed. Even with dual CP3s, those guys are amung the top 2.6 trucks IN THE COUNTRY so you are up against a stacked class week in and week out. It's a long expensive road to get to their level.
If you are like me, I know I don't have the $$$ to have all of what them guys have so when I get out there, I already know I'm not going to be a front runner. I'm honestly just getting into it to have a good time because it's my passion and favorite past time. Maybe with a little luck on my part and perhaps a little misfortune on a top truck and I might find a win from time to time but I will also be hooking against some of the hottest 2.6 trucks in the country and I just know not to expect to win often. Hopefully with that reality check for myself, I won't be too dissappointed when I come up short more times than not and am just able to have fun.
Congrats on being out there and giving it your best. Have fun bud!
Papuller86 06-13-2010, 11:58 PM now dont take this the wrong way but is there a class that u can put your self in to be more competitive guys on the same level as u with just a few bolt on parts, rather than full blown motors
remington_43040 06-16-2010, 08:26 PM I know I'm running against some big trucks and don't plan on winning around those guys, I'm not upset with how I did or anything. I was just looking to see how to use the new turbo a little better since it was my first pull with an aftermarket turbo. I've been pulling a few years with the stock turbo and that was getting old. Had to throw on a turbo to see what it can do. Some places have a stock class around here but mostly the bottom class is 2.6". I don't normally pull at big places like that NADM event, I usually try to stick to the fairs and smaller pulls where I can pull with guys that have the same size wallet as me. I think I've got the wife convinced on getting dual CP3's for this winter's project so that will liven things up a bit.

Don't want to be a A$$ and highjack your thread but that black FORD at about 1:30 have a DURAMAX in it? Sure sounded like it!
dansdieselp 06-16-2010, 09:13 PM Get a set of H2s off ebay for like $300 and put a set of BFG ATs 305 65 R17 on them. More fuel will help you out in power as well. That turbo makes her a clean burner.
WisconsinHick1 06-17-2010, 11:51 PM I highly suggest a front locker. I put one in mine before this season started. I've pulled 3 times with my stock turbo in a 2.6 class and have been very competitive. But we don't have the big names up here. It was a night and day difference with the locker and it feels better down the track more control at least thats how I felt.
How do you like the Silver bullet I have though about that for my turbo just can't decide.
I also have a different pulling style I don't build boost out of the gate I get it going and then at about 100' I put it too the floor but I feel like Im not getting good grounds speed so I might try building some boost this weekend.

I used to just take off and then mash it at about 50 feet with the stock turbo. With the Silver Bullet I boosted it up some the one time I pulled with it, next time I'm going to boost until i can't hold it anymore.
The turbo runs good, definitely makes some power. EGT's are kind of high and it is a little laggy, but not too bad. I haven't ran anything besides stock though, so I don't have much to compare it to.
I'm thinking about having the front diff lincoln locked. I can't decide whether or not to do it, the price is right and I don't really need 4wd on the street since I have my other truck. E-locker would be ideal but it is not in the cards.

Yes it does have a duramax in it!
ecc_33 07-08-2010, 06:56 PM Get the front locked and do second gear starts!!!!! You can load up more boost and be able to hold it on the line easier....dual cp3's are a huge difference....If you really want to get crazy do a gear swap to 4.56 gears then you can run 4th gear instead of leaving it in 3rd
remington_43040 07-10-2010, 07:55 PM I've been thinking about starting in second. I pulled again last weekend and I boosted up harder and it pulled alot better, but I only had 3 wheel drive according to the video!! I really need to get the front locked up.
