I'm thinking of trading in my 2003 Duramax for an 2006 Duramax.

Does anyone know the difference of the two years if any.

My 2003 runs great and never had any problems with it. but I'm thinking the 2006 might be a better truck. does anyone know?

what do you guys think?

Thanks,
Ace

If yoir 2003 us okay with you wait for the 2007, it will be a completely new truck, maybe something you'll like a lot beter than the 2006.The significant difference in the 06 and yours is engine, more powerful and easier to work on and believe the tranny is a six speed. Don't know why this thing changed letter type .

I looked at the new GMC, it looks 100% like my 04. The only big change will be the motor and the diesel fuel filler neck can take the big boy pumps.

07 being a completely new truck.....I would wait on that one also. Hell, my 04 has bugs that they have not changed until 05. :)

Just my 2cents.

you guys made a good point about waiting for the 2007's to come out.
I like my 2003 and nothing has ever gone wrong with it.
now you guys got me wondering about the looks and the power of the 2007's.

now I can't wait to see the 2007's

I cant imagine chevy changing much for 2006 (this is the same company that kept the same body style for 16 years!!!) This seems funny to me that chevy is changing the 2007's (only after 6 years) Cross your fingers maby they will sign CAT and put some really awsome engines in that *****er!

what ever it will be in 2007 .
I hope it's more powerful and better looking.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Just picked it up - haven't put 200 miles on it yet.

No forum for the 6.6? :(

Reading the previous comments, I've got a six speed Allison. So far I like it. Hope the job offer comes through before I make the first payment... :help2: :duh:

2005 6.6L Duramax / Allison Dually 3500 LB SLT Crew.

Guessing this will handle my 8,000 # TT better than the 1500 Sierra. Didn't need the dually, but that's what they had and I really wanted the D/A LB Crew.

Grandkids needed the entertainment package for those long camping trips..

Ed

There are two forums for the 6.6L I have the LB7 engine...that is the 6.6 pre 2004.5 and the LLY which is the engine post 2004.5

Your in the right place for the diesel 6.6.:D

But for your band new bady, she has the LLY engine, it is that simple.

I was a Ford Powerstroker driver before my GMC...it took me time to figure it out.....but hell if a Ford driver can figure it out anyone can.

It is kinda addictive...either have your wife hold the credit cards or get another job! lol

I heard that GMC did tests with the CAT engine and there was so much torque that it would twist the frame...and instead of beefing up the already heavyest truck frame around they went with the Isuzu!

I would love to have a little tougher looks and that CAT in there!....but you can only hope!

ya, but will the 07's have the power of the 06 with the stringant emissions that they will have to meet?

Thanks, NoWake. I appreciate your comments.

I have a friend with an F250 Powerstroker who kept bugging me to get one. He's added an air compressor, horns, a pyrogage and the 6" diameter exhaust system. At least it looked like 6" to me. I guess the less back pressure you have, the better, but is there a payoff in fuel mileage? He even introduced me to his pals at Ford - and appeared in an ad for them! Oh well.

When he heard I'd got the Duramax, he sent me the specs on the engine. Not sure exactly what he was thinking, but I hadn't found the Diesel Supplement at that point so it was helpful.

The 1500 gasser was getting 15 around town (4:10 rear end and a puny 4.8L) and the D/A is already over 18. Of course there's the depreciation, but who's counting?

As far as the credit cards go, I think it's about time to relieve my wife of hers. She's never been able to get credit cards, so now she thinks she's found a new source of income (for her) and she's piling up bills at 21% and making minimum payments. I don't have anything over 6%, so we're going to have a little discussion here...

Thanks for the info.

Ed, wow that sucks about the bills!

What got me in to a GMC was when my wife rolled my '01 Powerstroke down a 50' embankment giving her a serious head injury . Almost killed her, but if you look in 'Off Topic' under 'who you are' thread she is alive and kick'n.

I bleed blue....or should now say blead blue. I still love the Super Duty and the Mustang but as for everything else. :( So when I told the guys at my Ford dealership I bought a Duramax the said "wait a second, I though Deb was the one with the head injury." Everytime I stop in to say hello they are always trying to put a big Ford oval sticker on my truck.

Anyway...welcome to the club....there are bunch of GREAT guys on this site.:ro)

Sure, but if they went cube for cube, the CAT would not have much of an edge, if any edge over the Isuzu at all!!

Take care,

As far as it goes now...the Duramax for 06 is going to have 360 HP and 620 lb-ft of torque. They tried to building it at 400 HP...but it kept on twisting the drive shaft so they had to back it back down. And they is also talk of them uping the body for 06 and not waiting for 07 because of them losing some of the market share.

why would they be twisting the driveshaft at 400hp when alot of people are that and alot more at the wheels? The 400 you are talking about would be at the flywheel. Just wondering not pickin on ya.

Don't have an answer for you on that one....all I know is that when they took it to the track....in Pontiac....it ended up twisted the drive shafts....so whatever combo that they were using didn't work....so they went back to a 360 HP......who knows about GM?

Now you've really lost us a Dmax in a Pontiac I'm getting one. And doesn't the GTO have over 400 hp anyways.

I test drove the Pontiac this past weekend and I'm getting one. Man that car can really fly.
I'm just waiting for my dealer to find the silver one.
Maybe today they'll have one and I can go pick it up.
