: Avic D3 question regarding 2nd BU camera
Heron 06-07-2010, 11:33 PM Done anyone know if I can plug in a second BU camera on the extra video inputs on my D3 so I can have another BU camera on my 35' TT?
I simply want to be able to switch between the "source" button..The Video in's have the same RCA plug...?
If that is so I simply need to find a camera that will have 60' of wire..yikes
nekkidhillbilly 06-08-2010, 02:20 PM well it would be simple with a video selector inline between the the plugs. flip the switch from one to another.

Do you know where I can find a toggle type video selector? The only thing I see are these boxes that are large...?
rmeav8er 06-10-2010, 03:46 AM If your just looking to be able to switch 1 line (video), just go to radio shack and pick up a dpdt switch and some rca cable and make your own. Should be very easy. I would get 2 extra cables that have a male end and a female end. Cut the cables and crimp or solder them to the back of the switch. Then you will be able to use the switch one way for one camera and the other way for the other.

So using a double pole double throw switch will not affect the video transmission or quality...?
Sounds pretty simple...how many wires to the rca cables have in them?
rmeav8er 06-10-2010, 04:05 PM The rca cables have 2 wires inside them. One in the center and then the shielding. Thats why you would need the double pole. I think you could get away with a double pole single throw switch and the only difference would be that you dont have the center off position. I dont think the switch would hurt the quality much at all but I would get a heavy duty switch to get the most contact in the switch. Here is a link to someone making something like it and if you look 3/4 of the way down it shows what an rca looks like inside being soldered. http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/05/how-to-make-a-component-video-switch/

Building a switch seems like the cleanest thing to do and it would take up less room. I don't need multiple displays nor do I see myself ever adding a 3rd camera.
I'm not really sure how I'm going to mount the camera on the back top of the TT..I really don't like the idea of drilling holes in the rubber roof just to mount a camera..then I'd have to figure out a way to run the cable thru the trailer..
I'd like to put it on the spare tire mount but then again I'd have a bike rack back there and it would get in the way of the camera.
Google rca video a b switch
Heron 06-30-2010, 01:04 PM This second Boyo camera has one RCA, one power and one ground. I know with my truck BU camera I hooked to a back up wire under the dash and when I hit reverse it will come on but if I switch my D3 to BU camera while going down the road I can see it also.
Can I somehow hook up the power and ground to my wiring at my hitch so it will do the same thing with the trailer BU camera?
I plan on using a DPDT switch to switch from the truck to the trailer BU camera but I'd like to have the same ability I currently have with the truck camera but I really don't want to have run more wire up to the dash(other than the RCA to the video selector switch).
I do have a relay off the trailer(40amp) circuit for my back up lights...can I use that or maybe even the power from the deep cycle marine battery on the trailer...Just don't know how it will know to switch automatically to the trailer camera when I put it in reverse. I'd think if I only put it on the reverse light power it will not work when going down the road.
nekkidhillbilly 07-01-2010, 12:44 AM you d3 itself should go to bu mode not the camera. all you need is a power and ground for a camera. just hook it to a switched source on the hitch or around the bed.

Okay, thanks for the help!
