I am having trouble with my drivers power window. Since I have owned the vehicle the drivers side window would stop working every once in a while then just start working on its own for months then do it again for a day or two then start working again. Well it stoped working for about a week and I figured it was the switch and ordered one on line from the switch doctor and just put it in and nothing? The drivers side passenger window hasnt worked for more than six years. Does anyone know how to check to see if it is the switch without having to take it to the dealer? I hate to take it to the dealer for a switch problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I sure hope not, I guess my luck has caught up to me. Many years of no problems, now the nickel and dime shower

take the door panels off and clean and grease the rails and channels..pull the wire and check for power and ground..motors are cheap and easy to replace if need be

Last time I went to replace a power window motor on a GM it was rivited in place and could not get the old one out? I pull the panel and see what it looks like.

Do you get a voltage drop when you push the button? Reason I ask is when I first got my truck, the passenger window did not go down, but I had a voltage drop on my gauge. I thought the motor was bad so I bought a new one. After disassembling the door to swap out the motor, the window started working. I think the window was jammed up and disassembling it loosened the jam.

On my burb, the driver's window worked fine but the other three were intermittent as you describe. I put a new switch in and the problem was solved. May want to swap out the switch to see if that fixes it.
I actually have a good working switch from a 95-99 that I pulled at the pick n pull and used in mine (with no cover) until a 94 came in the yard and I put the 94 switch in. If you want to buy it (for the price I paid for it at the pick n pull plus shipping), PM me. If I recall the front passenger switch cover kept coming off but the window still worked.

I do get a voltage drop, I am taking door panel of tonight and checking ground and greasing up rail see if that does it. Is the motor bolted in and can you reach it with your hands?

The motor is riveted. Drill out the rivets and replace them with sheet metal screws for the new motor if that is all that is readily available. Unfortunately, the best way to get the panel off is with the window about half way down. Could be a bit of a pain if you can't get it to move at all.
