I am becoming somewhat expasperated. I just changed the trans fluid replacing the stock components with the Allison deep pan, deep filter and external filter. I didn't flush the convertor and have used 10.5 quarts of new fluid. I now show adequate fluid when cold on the stick but when hot, it shows low. Anyone else experienced this? Called Allison before the change and was told 10.6 quarts to refill. Don't want to under fill or overfill. Any comments are appreciated.

The proper check is at 175 degrees. Don't rely on the COLD band, for it's not accurate — too wide (begins too low), according to Crafty. With the deep pan, it is OK to be at the bottom of the hot hash marks at that temperature (shallow pan should be 1/2 up the LOWER portion of the hot hash mark). Your level check must be temperature specific. You can get 175 by brake-standing the transmission in "D" for about 40 seconds (emergency on and foot on the brake) and then flush for a bit in "P" and repeat until you are just short of 175 (it will continue to climb a bit on its own due to a delay in the sensor). Then check your level in "P" with the engine running.

Define "low" when hot. Allison says that when at temperature (175, as stated), the fluid level should be at the lower Hot mark. Transmission fluid is very dependent on temperature, so if you're not at 175 when you take the reading, it will be off. Also, the width of the Hot Run band is 1 quart.
