Well, I am glad when I decided to purchase an 2500HD truck and ship it over to the UK, that it came with a good heavy duty front bumper.:D

Well yesterday while on my way to a breakdown of a friend, We got to put the bumper to the test. It is common here in the uk at traffic lights for two lanes to go straight forward. when you get to the other side of the junction, one of the lanes is supposed to merge into the other. So you have double the traffic trying to get in the same spot. Rule is the one closest to the kerb/sidewalk has the right of way. Those on the outside have to filter in. works 99% of the time but not this time.

If you have seen my garage, you know what my bumper looks like.

Well this guy decided he didn't want to filter in and decided HELL, I'll pick on something a little larger than normal so pick on us. Lucky, he clipped the front bumper which caused him to spin round across the front and then we pushed him up the road. O the joy of plenty of power of my max:D

Bet you can't guess who came off worse:p:

Only damage to the bumper was one of the eyebrows that cover the fog/spot lamps was slightly bent up. Took two minutes to dress it back with the big hammer

Well that is a good question, My father and myself are motor vehicle technicians including vehicle breakdowns and recoveries, but we can turn our hands to anything, I like to build "sleeper" cars and go out and upset the local rice burners and boy racers.:D We especially like to upset them with the truck:p: . There isn't much on the road here that can out run her upto 100mph ( but never done that )

The trailer will carry 5000 kg ( around 10,000lb) and will tip rear wards and both left and right fully loaded.

I'll try and get some pictures of the trailer when all the alloy sides are fitted as they are all designed to quick disconnect so you can go from a flat bed to a dump trailer in 5 mins and then install a ladder rack at the front and back and throw a canvas over the lot and have a covered trailer .

I really need to catch up with my pictures:)

How much did the boat ride cost you to ship the truck?

I love the trailer. It doesn't look like little European cars do well against American trucks:cool:

Total cost of the boat ride was $2750.

That included picking up the vehicle from milton, FL (where i was staying) transported to miami, FL then the boat ride including marine insurance.

That was the cheap side of the transport. When it got to the UK and unloaded, I had to pay 10% import duty and then 17.5% Value Added Tax:eek::mad::mad::mad: I think of the top of my head, that was £ 5300 so around the $10,000 tax OUCH.

So ya like my trailer. The only thing that I wasn't fond off is in the UK, we are not allowed to use the electronic brakes like in the USA. We have to use inertia brakes so as the loaded trailer catches up and compresses the trailer hitch, it pulls the trailer brakes on. It's not brillant but I took an hour to set it up and it works ok. I have had the trailer pretty full and pulled it behind my truck upto 80-90 mph and it pulled great

What a bunch of thieves, what I don't understand is how can they bang you for the VAT tax when the truck is already paid for.

If your interested in buying some of the parts to build the trailer, I can get them and send them over to you so you don't end up paying any duties your end:D

When I built the trailer and was looking through the parts book, they offered two weight sets, a 3500kg (7000lb) and a 7500kg (15000lb) set. I opted for the HD set as always "if in doubt, make it stronger"

I think the ball and socket tip set was about £200 ($350-400), the ball and socket for the top of the ram was about £100 ($175) and the gimble mount for the ram was £100 ($175).

When I was thinking of building a new trailer, I was keeping my eyes out for some hydraulics etc and fell on a bargain of the century, a company called harsh UK who build heavy duty commercial truck bodies and tipper equipment was having a clear out. I managed to purchase a brand new electric / hydraulic pump unit for £100 and a brand new 6 ton 5 stage ram for £100. :D Purchased them 6-8 month prior to the build because at that price, you couldn't walk away.

At the same time from a different company, Northern tool uk, they had a NOS pierce tipper unit http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_552_552 that nothern tool USA sent them when they set up that turns the bed of the truck into a tipper, I think I paid £100 for the whole kit inc delivery for everything, the scissor arrangement, ram, power pack and hoses. Couldn't pass that up. Not got round to fitting it, but I will do sometime.

Anyway, back to the trailer, I was looking for HD trailer wheels and managed to get my hands on some for £35 each. While i was there picking up, i was offered 4 new HD suspension axles with the brakes etc, 2 new draw bar hitches and 7 new wheels for a bargain price.

The frame for the trailer is actually made from some thick wall 5" x 2" steel box that started life as some HD commercial racking. so broke out the plasma cutter one day and started cutting.

The body of the trailer came from a friend of ours that took it off another vehicle that was being converted to a flat bed truck. It was used but in good condition and the right size for what I wanted 7' wide x 11' long.

What I will do is I'll hook it up to the truck, drop all the sides on and take more pics.
