: Banks Covers Factory Warranty w/Six-Gun & iQ if purchased direct?
71dsp 06-03-2010, 05:35 PM I just spoke with a Banks sales rep regarding some parts for my 2010 LMM. The sales rep stated that Banks will "take care" of any GM factory warranty problems if I were to have issues with the dealer due to having a Six-Gun w/iQ installed. However, this coverage was only available if I were to purchase the package directly from Banks.
I was under the impression that any power adders would void any factory GM powertrain warranty. It seems that the Six-Gun would fall under this category since Banks' web site states, "calibrated for racing and sport, Six-Gun delivers pavement-shredding best gains of +130 hp and +244 lb-ft at the rear wheels; has 6 change-on-the-fly power levels; is Stacked for Power® to timing and fuel pressure; and has exclusive AutoRate® and ActiveSafety® engine and transmission safeguards."
Can anyone confirm this? I wasn't even thinking of installing a tuner, but if I wouldn't have to worry about my factory warranty with a Banks Six-Gun, it might be worthwhile. Of course, I'd end up paying a little more as I'd be buying direct, but the additional warranty coverage would be worth it, IMO.
What do you guys think?

I would still pull it before you take it in. Out of side out of mind. The temp proble can be used for gauges when you tow so just tell them you run gauges only when you tow. I would give jeff Barker a call his prices are hard to beat & you are buying directly from Banks then so no question on warranty from who you bought it from. Banks vendor are responsible for the warranty of the products they sell. If you buy directly from Banks you will get their warranty. Maybe that is what the salesman ment to say..
Clm7214 06-03-2010, 06:35 PM Yeah, I think he meant they will warranty issues with the Banks gear directly, if you purchase directly from Banks. Buying direct form Banks is the best. They are very good about sending new gear out to you ASAP. If you buy from a vendor you have to go through that vendor if you have problems.

HA! Yeah Id like to get THAT in a written, legal document with gale banks's signature. Even if I got that 'guarantee' from banks Im sure it would have some fine print.
Joe Consumer blows a hole in the piston of his new LBZ because he was doing burnouts. Takes it into the dealer for a new engine under warranty, dealer laughs at him and says "nope, not under warranty cause you had BANKS on it". Joe goes to BANKS and says "GM needs 13 grand (yes we all know that you can find a good used engine and get your truck back on the road for closer to 4 grand installed, but GM always charges rediculous $$$$ for such things) for a new engine". NOW is banks going to come on here and say "yep! we'll fork over that 13 grand and send the customer on his way no questions asked!" I highly doubt it.

Yeah ben you are right.. I highly doubt any manufactor would do that. Or they would not be in business long. But the tuner would sell like hot if that was true.
71dsp 06-03-2010, 08:03 PM Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking. So I asked, and the rep said something to the effect of "if you have a problem while your truck is in service at the dealer, you call us, and we'll take care of it." However, he emphasized that this is ONLY available if the product is purchased directly from Banks.
You'd think if this really was the deal, Banks would put this on their web site, but I don't see anything like that on their site.
achalmersman 06-04-2010, 12:14 AM The ECM can detect program changes on the new trucks and it voids warranty (records last 12 program changes GM requires Tech2 snapshot for warranty work). Doesn't the Banks fall into this category? Or does it not actually change the WCM programing and just modify it? If the WCM doesn't record it, the TCM will. It records the highest calculated torque value. these trucks don't make 900 ft lbs stock
wellsaidfred 06-04-2010, 09:14 AM What do you guys think?
I'm thinking sales pitch, it's the old saying if it sounds too good to be true...
71dsp 06-04-2010, 09:30 AM ^ +1. That's why I haven't ordered anything. :D
Thanks guys for the sanity check!
Not to threadjack my own thread, but wellsaidfred how do you like the cargo management rails/system? Can it be installed post spray in bed liner?
DURAtotheMAX 06-04-2010, 09:45 AM the ECM cant detect harness boxes like banks and edge.
71dsp 06-04-2010, 09:51 AM I was thinking that the Banks reprogrammed the ECU through the OBDII port like other programmers. Is this incorrect? Is it a piggyback type of programmer?
EDIT: I didn't realize that Banks has their owners manuals online. I'm looking it up now...
diesail 06-04-2010, 10:41 AM Straight from the Banks owners manual PDF
The BUYER is solely
responsible for all warranty issues
from the automotive manufacturer.

Harness box style not a programmer, if you did not find it already

If this is true, the TCM can still detect the abnormally high torque outputs....

Ah hell, the parts are all made in China so the TCM can go bad... Just tell the dealer that.. :D

lol. Yea I'm sure that will fly
Customer: "Yea It shifts fine, drives fine, so there is nothing wrong with the TCM other than the fact that It says It was subjected to 900 ft/lbs at one time
Lunchbox 06-09-2010, 04:27 PM Superchips offers a two year warranty on the powertrain of the truck if you buy and register a cortex tuner. I know there are a few limitatons to it but I'm just saying that warranties provided by the aftermarket manufactures is not unheard of.
DURAtotheMAX 06-09-2010, 04:51 PM If this is true, the TCM can still detect the abnormally high torque outputs....
only on 2009+ trucks

no, they are not.
hemisareslow 06-09-2010, 05:28 PM 2 things.....banks is banking on the magnuson moss warranty act...which basically says that the dealer must prove that your aftermarket ad on is the DIRECT cause of the malfunction...if banks is going to take it a step further and say they would go to bat for you should your dealer contest a warranty repaire because of the tuner...I would ask for that in writting.....as far as buying fomr banks being more expensive....its not...I believe JBarker is the banks rep on this forum and if I am not mistaken he has something in his signature along the lines of "we will be any advertised banks price"....soo shoot him a pm and see what he can do for you
CRASHNBURN 06-09-2010, 05:54 PM no, they are not.
Ah, ben I was just going for humor.. come on.. ;)
achalmersman 06-09-2010, 05:55 PM no, they are not.
I didnt think so either but could not prove it :)
achalmersman 06-09-2010, 05:56 PM only on 2009+ trucks
The OP has a 2010 ;)

CRASHNBURN 06-09-2010, 10:13 PM I did not want to have a massive strike from hardworking americans that make the tcm's, if that's who make them.
WI Huck 06-09-2010, 11:04 PM That is another example of the Banks sales force throwing their dealers under the bus! Bad form.
