Lately I've noticed this pink gunk forming around a pipe coming from the water pump. It doesn't look like it's leaking or anything and doesn't appear to be a problem, just wondering how severe it might be and what needs to be replaced?

I've attached a picture.

Thanks.

Pretty typical leak at that coolant quick connect fitting. Common failure and cheap fix.

That fitting is replaceable, just clean up the pipe and its good to go..

Some of the older ones were magnessium and will break off in the crossover and turn an easy fix into an all day project. Easy does it.

Is it something that should be fixed right away? Or will it get worse within the next week?

It will probably continue to seep. I've replace them witht he stock unit but a barbed 3/4" fitting works too.

I'm with QM on the barbed fitting, the quick connect is just there so when GM is putting the assembled body on the chassis they can snap it together instead of paying somebody a nickel to put a hose clamp on.

I replaced mine with rubber hose all the way to/from the heater core.

I don't have the part number, but GM makes a regular nipple to fit in the crossover housing which was used in 6.2 diesels in the 1980's. I removed my leaking quick connect long ago and went with the 6.2 nipple and a length of heater hose. Simply cut the aluminum tube so the heater hose can be clamped onto it securely, install the barb and you'll be set. The barb has a restriction in it to control the heater core coolant flow. I've got over 100k on that fix and it never causes me a headache.

Yupp been there done it except had to replace the crossover, I put brass hose barb in from local hardware store.

My aluminum tubing got a pin hole in it while I was doing my crossover install so I replaced the complete hose assy with plain heater ose and a hose nipple in the cross over. works for me

3/4 NPT barbed fitting from the "Help!" section in a god sent NAPA in BFE Northern Neck Va. as the cracked aluminum fitting steam cleaned my engine. Stopped twice to fill up the cooling system trying to make it. 10 min. and a few 2nd degree burns later I'm on my way to the next install. Downtime is the enemy!
