I have seen some conflicting information on the Hypertech Power Programmer 3. Does it remove or raise the top speed limiter or not?

I just installed mine and I haven't had a chance to check it out. I doubt that I will need it raised, but just curious. I may have to take it out and run it up to check it out!

Thanks for the thoughts!

From everything I have read the Hypertech will not raise the speed limiter on the Duramax. It will do just about everything else. If you want it raised you will need a Quad, Bully Dog, or Predator tuner... Good luck

No big deal for me! I have had my truck running close to 110 mph and it never kicked off, so I was also wondering what is the stock speed limit in the 05 Duramx? My 2000 Silverado and my 2002 Tahoe kicked off around 95 mph.

I really don't have a big desire to do much more than that anyway. I have a Yamaha FZ1 that will do 150 mph+, 0-60 mph = 2.9 seconds, 1/4 mile in just under 11. I guess if I have the need for speed I will get on that. :ro)

Stock speed limiter is 97mph.

I had my GPS showing that I hit 106 mph a couple of weeks ago. It was before I had the speedo adjusted for the larger 35" tires, but the GPS is usually spot on. Normally, when I back off once I hit max speed the GPS is a second or so slow, that is why I figured that I must have been close to 110 mph. I may have been heading dow hill some, but I wasn't really paying attention so I don't know for sure.

When I broke hit 106 jmph on my GPS I did not have the Hypertech installed yet. Now that I do, I am going to have to run out and test it to confirm if the speed limiter is raised or erased. I have a lonely stretch of straight flat highway north of my house. :D

The Hypertech Power Programmer III will give you the option of raising your speed limiter on gas motors, not diesels.

Stock speed limiter is 97mph.

Thats correct. No way to get near 110mph or 106mph or even 100mph stock, even downhill.

previous post, told hypertec tires were smaller and let him go faster.

Well, I confirmed that the Hypertech will only let you get to the stock speed limiter at 97 mph on flat terrain. I am not sure what happened with the GPS reading, but it showed much higher.

Anyway, I did find it interesting that when it hits 97 mph, that the motor doesn't cut out like it did on my 2000 Silverado gas motor. It just runs smooth at that sustained speed.

Axe you have bigger tires right? That is why you can get a higher reading on your GPS. The truck is actually moving faster due to the increased tire size.

Well, with the Hypertech programmer installed, I actually have corrected for the tire diameter change. Nevertheless, I only speed checked it up to about 80 mph with my GPS, so it could be off a little at speeds above 95 mph.

It appears that the odometer and speedometer are corrected pretty accurately, but who knows about all the details. Good point though!
