: 2011 GM verses 2011 Superduty
a bear 05-31-2010, 10:48 AM Wonder what Ford is going to do now that GM has them beat in all catagories? :p: I'm predicting they will wave the white flag and accept equal performance. There's only so far to go in the 3/4 and 1 ton dept. GM has had Ford in their cross hairs for a while now and did a great job putting together the 2011 3500HD. I was planning on keeping my 06 for a while but now I'm tempted as all get out.
GREAT JOB GM!! :D
Happy Memorial Day everybody! :flag:
Smashed Ixnay 05-31-2010, 09:25 PM I believe Ford has best in class everything now till the GM's hit the lots, which then GM will be best in class everything. It's a possibility Ford will raise the HP, TQ, and capability numbers on job 2 trucks, but I think they'll wait till the 2012 MY to do that.
Ford: 390 HP @ 2800rpm, 735TQ @ 1600rpm
Chevy: 397 HP @ 3000rpm, 765TQ @ 1600rpm
When it comes to HP they are basically even. Put Ford at 3000rpm and you do the math to see how much HP they have. When it comes to TQ I'll give it to Chevy because 765 is a pretty damn big number. I was actually amazed they'll have this much TQ. I figured 750 max, but they came out swinging with 765 at 1600rpm. This will be interesting because Fords have always been heavier, but this year Chevy is putting on a couple hundred lbs (600/700) I believe.
This will be an interesting year for sure since the 6.7L has much room for improvements, whereas, the 6.6L is pretty much maxed out. IF, Chevy can make these numbers higher for next year I will be surprised. I think Ford will top them in payload capability next year also.
And to think when I bought my 02 7.3L F350 with 250hp/525tq I thought it was a beast. Both these trucks are light years ahead of them in HP/TQ now.
Joey D 05-31-2010, 10:51 PM Lets hope they focus on a mileage war.
Smashed Ixnay 06-01-2010, 12:02 AM That's what they need to do. I have a feeling Chevy has a head start on them when it comes to that; even with the added weight. We'll see when they come out though.

Having a 60% new component engine. They are not maxed out. They are not going to put that kind of enginering (cost and time) into an engine just to say thats it.

If you look at the HP & Torque curves the 6.7 falls pretty quick after 2800 RPM so at 3000 RPM GM is up on them even further. At 3000 RPM the 6.7 falls to 600 ft/lbs while GM maintains 700 ft/lbs. Also at 3000 RPM Ford falls about 15 HP. Looking at the curves across the board GM has a generous edge.
As far as the future of the 6.6 verses the 6.7, GM loosened the rubber band with several structural improvements that should take them well into the future. For the most part they are nearly equal displacement wise so now it becomes a matter of using improved hard parts and battling the daunting task of meeting emission requirements. This can be done on an ongoing basis. IMO the 6.6 is there for the long haul.

:agreed:I plan to buy one now.So even if later down the road the 6.7 can pass the 6.6 by,it won't really matter. It's not like if I bought a 6.7 now and two years from now they up grade the new 6.7s,they'll let me bring my old 6.7 in and get it up graded to the new specs.Or will they?I know chevy never offerd to up grade my lly.Weather someone thinks the 6.7 is best or the 6.6 is best, and your buying now.Who cares what they can do with them later on down the road? You'll still have the truck you bought now, unless you buy a new one.Or am I missing something?

Just another good reason for a 4.5L
Primed2win 06-01-2010, 11:58 PM Unfortunately you are not gonna see a milage war on HD trucks until the EPA requires them to post mileage info on the sticker like all other cars and trucks.
As we all know now there is an abundance of bad information out there on the kind of mileage these trucks get. Are you really gonna believe a salesman when he tells you, "hey I know GM doesn't show it on the sticker, but this new LM??? get 24 MPG and the new FORD and Dodge are only gettin' 18."
The automakers have little incentive to give up performance for economy on these trucks. Would people buy a new LML detuned to 650 lb/ft. if it got 20% better economy, sure, BUT GM can't say that with EPA guidelines. They can state we have 397 HP, they can't state we get 18.8 MPG
The way it is going with the EPA restrictions tightening every couple years there may not be a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel engine for the common middle class guy. I was talking to the owner diesel mechanic shop the other day and he was talking about the way the goverment/EPA is trying to get rid of diesel engines. Why would they want that and what about over the road trucks?
Sorry if I high-jacked your thread

I really have to wonder if people make up BS like this because they are trying to sound smarter than they are, or simply dont know anything about anything.

100% agreed! If anything, it's the totally opposite. You're seeing MORE diesel vehicles brought to market today in the US, and well over half of Europeans drive diesel vehicles.
As for the Ford, I went to a Ford lot yesterday just to look at one. I'm not gonna lie, I was gonna drive one this week to see how it compares. However, the seat material in the truck is hideous! The two 2011 trucks on the lot were both Lariats, and the center trim on the seats is ridiculous. At first glance, one of them resembled snake skin IMO. LOL! These weren't King Ranch trucks, and both trucks stickered for right at $60k. I'd consider a King Ranch, but I'm not willing to give $65k for a truck! Besides that, the 2011 Chevy is honestly a much better-looking truck. I just can't get used to the Ford grille.

I thought about thesame thing when I looked at one.
mmaul1039 06-08-2010, 12:06 AM I agree threw up in my mouth when I saw the lariet leather
GMC2500HD 06-08-2010, 05:25 PM Well compare side by side.. Pictures according to website I got them from.
You have the 2011 Ford F350 and the 2011 Chevy 3500 at the top.
You have the 2011 Ford F250 and the 2011 Chevy 2500 in the middle and bottom.
Me personally, I don't like the Ford dually fenders, but as dodge did, I am sure this will be a phase. With regards to the interior, GM has nicer colors but the material holds up better in the Ford. As far as the grill, I think the Ford makes a bolder statement, seems GM went back to 2002 with the old HD look, which is not a bad thing at all but just not for me. Then side to side, I think the Ford has a better stance and never really have understood why GM went to the squared off fender wells.
They are all great trucks, and these are just MY opinions.
I am curious to see if Ford will up their HP/TRQ numbers since they did start out so low.
Be interesting to see how they compare if tested 2011 to 2011...

I agree 100% they want to get rid of the internal combustion engine altogether
They wont be happy till all of our vehicles are electric and all electricity is generated by windmills or solar.
ProGrade 06-08-2010, 07:03 PM How many times can Ford redesign the front of the truck and leave the rest the same old thing? I was a Chevy guy from the start that ran a few Fords (97 F350/02 F350/07 F550) then went back to Chevy as soon as I drove a 2008. It is hands down a better truck IMO. How many different motors in Fords current chassis? Too many if you ask me but, who am I?

I agree. I have seen the Dually fenders in person and they look gay. To me the mega cab fenders looked way better.

Good observations. I like the more of a classic style front end of the Chevy's vs. the Tonka truck style of Fords, but that is one of those things that will always be a matter of opinion and you just have to go with what you like.
As far as the fenders, I'm not sure why they go the squared route either. It got really bad when the avalanch was released back in 02 i think. Had they released that product without the hideous plastic and the squared fender wells, it would've sold well I think. I wonder who made the call on that one. Funny how as the years went on, the fender wells got more and more rounded and the body had less and less plastic.
Probably designed by some grad out of art school instead of someone who has a great taste for a good styled vehicle.
DMAX154 06-09-2010, 11:30 AM I've looked ALOT at the Fords online and stopped at the local lot to take a closer look. I really like them. however the only way i would get one is if it were a King Ranch. The new 6.7 scares me though. Was never a big fan of buying the very first of anything.
tim222 06-10-2010, 02:18 AM Even if the manufacturers don't, or can't, post the mileage figures, it wouldn't take long for the word to travel if all of a sudden the new Chev was getting 30+ MPG!
I think I'm at a point where I'd "maybe" give up some power, for some mileage.:D
