I lost my alt. and pushed my luck to get home. The truck died and had to be pulled home, i replaced the alt. and charged up both batteries. It will crank but nothing. Ran like a champ before i lost trhe alternator.

I just replaced the fuel filter and bleed the system from the screw on top of the filter housing, reconnected both batteries and still nothing

The only time mine would not start is when I had a bad connection on the "CRANK" fuse on the fuse block inside the cab. It would just turn over and over and no fire. Worth a shot to check it out.

Also, with the fuel filter, after you replace and bleed until good fuel flow out the screw, you need to pump the primer again unitl you feel good resistance.

I have done this, i also opened the (schrader)? valve towards the front of the engine and had fuel to that point as well. But still nothing, it will crank until the battery is dead but nothing else.

Any codes?

did you try disconnecting the batteries for a while and reconnecting them?

i have removed the edge, primed the system, did the battery thing of disconnecting them( about 30 min ) and still nothing. I have fuel at the bleed screw by the primer button and at the valve towards the front of the motor. it cranks like mad but just wont fire. I have spoken with several shops, most wont touch the Duramax, and no one has any more ideas than what has already been done.

Just a thought but are there any codes, maybe a module not letting signal go through it.

I am thinking you fried your ECM, strange things happen when you let electronics run at a lower voltage than intended. You might check to see if you ECM is active. Easy for the dealer as they will take and hook up the tech 2 and see if it works. EFI Live would be able to do the same thing....

I agree with SFC Jones. Modern electronics require a minimum and maximum voltage for safe operation. Why would fuel be an issue unless you ran it dry of fuel before the batteries died? Even the starter motor will slowly fail if cranking voltage is less than the required minimum.(re: cranking until batteries dead)

is there any way to check the ecm at home without all the fancy computer stuff?

once upon a time you could jumper the prom under the dash but i would not advise that now with everything being so touchy.
Have you checked all of your fuses under the hood?

Just got the truck back from the dealer. They told me that when i ran the system with no alt. and totaly drained the bats it set off a security system code and shut down the ignition. sounds crazy to me but it runs great once again.

I had the same issue. The wiring harness clips on my 03 dmax have worn due to the repeated injector replacement. They have been pulled apart so many times they do not hold anymore. Try taking them apart and making sure they are clean. Then plug them back in and zip tye them tight. 20K miles later and still good.

what did they have to do to get it running?

I'm wondering if i have the same issue. Something has been draining my batteries lately and I've had to put them on a charger to get teh truck started. Charged it yesterday morning and it fired right up. Come out this morning and it cranks but won't start. The info display reads a bunch of codes like check airbag and brake system. Just tried again and it acts like the batteries are dead again.

I was looking through threads about priming the fuel system, but i'm new to the duramax, and i can't find the prime button anywhere on the filter.

Any other ideas? How do i reset the security system if that is what is wrong with it?

well i just got it started after 10 min on my charger. Fired right up. I'm hoping it is just the batteries going bad.
