: watch out for RPM outlet 5 inch, got screwed
who66 07-08-2005, 11:40 PM So I was recomended that RPM Outlet has good deals on 5inch exhaust. Well I order 1. Box shows up on my door step, all smashed up. So I open it, looks like exhaust, not quite what in the picture . Then I see this 3 foot long threaded pipe, made out of different metal than all the others. What !! a threaded peace of pipe, I pick it up and the darn thing ways 40 to 60 bounds!! ???? Go to bolt the exhaust on, nothing works, no clamps or hardware. All the hangers are wrong and I have a 3 foot long 40??? pound threaded pipe. JUNK JUNK !!!! I will call customer sevice Monday and have a fit. Has any one had luck with these guys??
2003duramax 07-09-2005, 03:01 AM I bought the edge and *** and it comes with the intake well the intake was the mac and it was not even close to the right one also diffrent from the pictures. They would not take the intake back. Horrible customer service!-:t I guess you get what you pay for.
GTA23109a 07-09-2005, 04:40 PM I bought my gauges and a-pillar pod from them. First shippment, they sent me the wrong a-piller, so I send that back, then they send me one that's the right size/shape but wrong color. I ended up just spending $5 on paint and doing it myself . . . figured that was less of a hassle.
DEMAXALLIS 07-10-2005, 07:26 PM The best thing I can say about the 5" inch exhaust from RPM is that it is made from 14ga, aluminized steel ( same as stock). Since I have a regular cab I hade to do some pipe cutting to get it to fit. After about a week, I decided to replace the muffler with a 5 " Donaldson to quite it down a bit.

DEMAXALLIS 07-10-2005, 09:09 PM Not mine.
habanero 07-11-2005, 09:03 AM Stock exhaust is stainless...
Yeah, and stock spark plugs are platinum...

Max Payne 07-11-2005, 09:16 AM Yeah, and stock spark plugs are platinum... Not ours:D
DEMAXALLIS 07-11-2005, 10:50 PM Every aluminized system I could find on the market are made from 16 guage steel, while the ones from RPM are 14 guage. Thats the best thing I can say about RPM's systems.
The entire exhaust system on my 03 came from GM with 14 guage aluminized steel, except for the first couple of inches of the front pipe which is stainless.
The stock 14 guage aluminized system on my GMC was in a lot better condition than the stainless system on the 04 D***e, I drive for work.

akdiesel 07-12-2005, 12:31 AM Now if you have carbon/Alluminum attached to stainless you will have a corrosion problem in the stainless pieces, if you do not have an isolation kit between the two different pieces.
Mark Craig 07-12-2005, 10:44 AM DEMAXALLIS,
Max is right the stock systems are 409 SS.

Mark Craig 07-12-2005, 10:49 AM who66,
Got a suggestion for you, ALL of the vendors/sponsors here have all the products you could want. Most of them including us at DPPI have a price GUARANTEE program too. The Sponsors are the reason these sites are free to members as we pay to advertise here, we recoup ours costs by selling products to members. Give us or any of the Sponsors an opportunity to fill your needs, we can do it at the best price with the products that fit and operate correctly and are shippped correctly 99% of the time (have to have a little out there you know I can't pack each box and have employees that are bound to make a error occassionally) and if you have a problem we'll fix it!!!
Return that system we have them sitting here waiting for your call.

DEMAXALLIS 07-12-2005, 12:18 PM I can't believe I'm wasting time posting this. For the record my truck is an 03, it has an aluminized exhaust, I know that the newer models are stainless.
I decided that a 14 guage aluminized system fit my needs, since the stock 14 guage aluminized system on my 03 GMC was in better shape, visually at least, than the stainless system on my work truck.
From an earlier post by Kennedy, one of the Supporting Vendors:
http://dieselplace.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1605&stc=1
"This shows OE stainless from a 2004 model LB7 stacked on 2003 and earlier aluminized take offs.
Additionally, the comments about rust out from the inside are of no concern with a diesel. Diesels do not producelarge amounts of water vapor or acids like a gasoline engine, and actually blanket the interior with a protective coating of soot.
The "cayalyzed" trucks went to 409ss as part of a multi year warranty requirement for emissions systems as well as potential heat issues. An aluminized pipe will last a LONG time, but if the coating is severely hot enough, the aluminized coating can be compromised, and it will begin to rust. Many diesels are running 10, even 15 year old aluminized exhaust systems..."

cdhd2001 07-12-2005, 08:55 PM My 2003 LB7 has a stock S.S. mix exhaust. Definetly not alumilized steel, they rust out here within a year.
DEMAXALLIS 07-12-2005, 09:09 PM GM must have made the change during the 03 production year. Not quite as drastic a change as going to the LLY in mid 04.
akdiesel 07-13-2005, 01:26 AM My '02 had stainless.

This is a blanket statement for all Silverados. It seems to have started somewhere around 2004 LB7 I believe for all emissions groups and the aluminized starts at the muffler. Prior models were full aluminized to the Vee clamp and looked much nicer.
I believe the pre 2004 CA models were 409 to the Vee flange, but I have not seen any of them.
Max Payne 07-13-2005, 09:35 AM Then again.. .Who cares if it is stainless stock exhaust? That would just make it last longer sitting in the back yard... I would prefer that it were biodegradeable so I didn't have to scrap it when I take it off ):h
