Hello all,

I have had intermittend WIF light coming on.

I started about 3-4 weeks ago. I followed the purge process from the filter and din't really see any water. Funny thing is the light on comes only in the morning.

I purged from the filter for about 4 days in a row, nothing really showing water. The light would come on again but eventually turn off a few miles down the road. The light would not come on the rest of the day. It would not come on after sitting 8-9 hours at work.

I started to believe a bad sensor. There has been days it never comes on. Lately the light comes on and stays on for my commute, the truck runs fine. It goes away when I shut the truck of and restart. I have been through about 4 full tanks of fuel. From 4 different stations.

Has anyone had a sensor go bad? could I really have water? Shold I just replace the sensor?

Perhaps there is a connection that is loose when it is cooler and once underhood temps come up the connection is good? I am not sure how the sensor works.

This WIF light is begining to piss me off.

Thanks

Did you really unscrew the bottom of the filter and hit the primer button to get rid of the water, or just loosen it and diesel came out, and stopped

Yes I unscrewd the plug and hit the primer a few times. all that seemed to come out was small streams of diesel.

Ok so the damn light still comes on. So just to be sure there wasn't water. I took about 24 oz of fuel off the bottom of the filter using the purge method. I then put that in a clear gas container to sit. There was no water seperation at first an none showed even after sitting for hours.

I guess it's a trip to the dealership for a new sensor unless anyone else has an idea.

Thanks

As long as it seems to be running OK, I'd wait a while longer for a response from one of the techs. Sometimes it takes a while to get an answer. I had a similiar water episode earlier this year with actual water in the filter. It took a filter change and a couple of tanks of fuel before it straightened out. But I had water, and my truck ran like ****. You might be lucky and just have a faulty sensor. Good luck.

unhook the sensor, if the light still comes on then you can rule the sensor out.

One thing to look closely at is the wiring where it goes around the bracket near the alternator and the FICM. Carefully inspect the wiring there and look for a wire that may be rubing on the metal bracket, if the yellow wire grounds out, that will turn the light on
