After 4 years, I've finally found a pickup with good engine/tranny/t-case. All for $650.00! It's a 83 Chevrolet Scottsdale C10 4X4. The engine only has 119K, and it's a one owner. Belonged to a farmer in Central/Southwestern Nebraska.

Am very ecstatic to get my Suburban back up and running again! I'll keep you all posted with the progress from the beginning to the end.

My suburban has a bad T-Case in it, everytime I hit the brakes medium to hard, it slips the transmission into neutral. Found out it would cost me 850 bucks to get it repaired. Forget it. My Burban also has a Turbo 400, which I will be taking out to have it rebuilt while the engine is being swapped. Then the tranny from C10 will probably go into my van later on.

Oh and yes, I'm putting the grill guard on my Suburban! YES! Been looking for that flat tube type for a long long time.

Please feel free to throw in comments, concerns, questions, and what have you.

Wish me luck in swapping the engines!

Scott

Quite typical failure of the transfer case. Range fork plastic inserts wear out, fall off, leaving the fork to ride against the range sliding gear. The fork wears down from contact with the gear, until it no longer holds the gear into mesh with the shaft. The detents on the sliding gear are not enough to hold it, the fork keeps it from coming out of gear during forward/backward thrust movement.

Typical high cost of repairs. The "fix" is a new shift fork and new plastic inserts, about $45, plus a $15 tube of of anerobic sealant. Labor time: 2.5 hrs, average.
