Hey guys I just installed a Banks cat back system and my EGT's went up like 200 degrees cruising on the freeway (right at 1000 now) and I can get the EGT's up to 1400:eek: when I stomp on it. I never got it above 1200 with the stock exhaust on there and saw below 800 just cruising.

Any ideas????? I was expecting the EGT to go down with the supposed better flow.

Here's a pic:http://www.hotboatpics.com/pics/data/500/5495rear_shocks-med.JPG

Kinda shows how we dumped the exhaust. I'm gonna pull the muffler off today and see if that helps but I just can't see what went wrong unless the muffler is restricting flow????

Any ideas would help.

Thanks,

Chris

Muffler on backwards? I know the MBRP I put on is definitely orientation-specific. Not sure about the Banks product as I've not actually had my greasy little mitts on one.

Thanks I checked that last night, "Inlet" side forward "Outlet" to the back.

Sounds like the muffler may be on backwards to me as well, or a manufacture miss box or labeling issue?

Maybe a got a bad muffler, gonna pull it and see what happens.

Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure I had it right. Better exhaust flow should = lower EGT's. MBRP here I come.

Ok, I have a dumb question.. why would the muffler being reversed cause a 200 degree increase in temps? most diesel mufflers are straight through compared to the stocker and only a couple have baffles inside so you can reverse it to minimize on sound if you want...

I personally have the MBRP system with the reversible muffler and I have it reversed to cut down on the sound. My temps are still very low, but you still have a cat installed as well.

unless Banks has a strange muffler out there I see something else being wrong.

If the baffles are backwards that creates backpressure which slows how quickly the exhaust gases exit, thus increasing EGTs.

are the baffles on the banks muffler that big? compared to the stock muffler, any diesel muffler will out flow it... just curious is all.

Let us know how this turns out.

It was not the muffler but the fricken Diablo Sport Predator programmer. Removed the muffler and ran it no noticable difference. Return the truck to stock tuning and no more high EGT's. Talked with Predator, nice guys but revised program to help lower EGT's won't be out for a couple of weeks. Not sure what I'm gonna do. I think I'm going to return the programmer and look for another.
On a side note Arron at AP diesel performance was super cool letting me return the programmer. Great guy and I appreciate him standing behind the products he sells. I will definately be buying from him again.

Thanks everyone for your help, guess I should have paid more attention to the "High EGT's with Predator" thread. Didn't realize they were this high.

cool, glad you guys figured it out. I was almost positive it wasn't the muffler doing that. didn't quite make sense to me.
