I am sold on doing a cognito leveling kit, here are a couple questions:
1. Should I plan on using different ball joint grease boots?
2. How necessary are the idler/pitman arm braces?
Kind of off topic. My brother would like to do one on his 01' Silverado 2500 gasser. I assume the suspensions were the same regadless of gas or diesel engine?
Thanks in advance

1 - Nope, the ones that are in the kit are great. The thread you more than likely read was the old one when they had a issue with a few but that was over a year or longer ago.
2 - If you are spending the money on the UCA's you are going to also gain with the braces, more braces are sold for stock trucks that don't have the UCA's so where I am going is it's a great upgrade regardless the UCA's.
3 - All 8-lug Chevy's 2001-2010 are the same gas or diesel.
Hope this helps you. We have this product if you need us for your purchase:).

Nick - Thanks for your quick response. Will we need keys for the 01'? I've read the newer one's 07' and up don't need them.

Yes, Here is what we have stated on our site:
Note:
Lift "Keys" are not always required but recommended for truck years 2001-2005.
Cognito Leveling kit is designed to level a HD truck, but if you would like to add a block to the rear to regain a "rake" stance you can. We recommend between a 1"-1.5" to retain a factory looking stance or "rake".
Over-Cranking the suspension will affect ride quality and is not recommended.
The distance between the upper A-Arm and the metal bump stop should be no less than 3/4".
Recommended max tire size for BEST results - 33” Tall x 11.5” Wide.
Recommended max aftermarket wheel for BEST results - 9" Wide with a backspacing between 4.75"-5.25" / Please note that your wheel B.S. changes how close the tire side wall is to possibly rubbing on the Cognito UCA.
Max tire size on stock rim 285/75R16 or 285/70r17.
GM H2 wheels will fit with 285/70r17 tire size.
There are many tire and wheel combos that can work on this kit (some fit better than others). The key is to keep the wheel and tire combo from sticking out of the wheel opening so you have little to no rubbing at turning on the fender and or bumper, BUT also not running such a heavy backspacing that your tire pulls in close to the UCA and ends up rubbing.
