: Who plans to get a new 2011 LML?
Ted White 08-19-2010, 11:01 AM I drove almost 800 kms, (500miles) from Southern Alberta to Kelowna, BC, through the mountains, so there were lots of opportunities to test the exhaust brake. To me, this is the single most impressive thing about the new truck. You can really feel it slowing the truck, but it is really quiet, almost just a sort of purring noise in the background.
It's controlled by the on-board computer and works in conjunction with the transmission for a really smooth braking effect. Also, the transmission doesn't have to use lower gears at higher revs like it does in the 2007 through 2010 models, so the whole experience of grade braking is very quiet, but VERY effective.
On long, steep, downhill grades in the mountains I never had to touch the brakes. I just left it in cruise control and the computer did the rest. It held the speed steady whether the road was going up or down, and never increased in speed on a downgrade the way it usually happens in cruise control. An excellent new feature - you can simply leave the cruise control on all the time. Can't wait to try it with the trailer.
When I left Alberta I reset the fuel economy. When I arrived home in Kelowna it had averaged 19.9 mpg over the 500 mile trip, which is way better than I ever achieved in the 2008. Still had a quarter tank of fuel left too.
The mpg will go down once the trailer is on the back, of course, but it sure looks like I will get a few more mpg than before. The new emissions system, which doesn't require as much exhaust gas recirculation, has definitely improved the economy and the power. I never "goosed" it on the way home, but I could feel that it will take off like a scalded cat when I try planting my foot sometime over the next few days.
bobbss 08-19-2010, 11:47 AM Ted,glad to see you found one you liked after they screwed you around on your order.
woodchuckcanuck 08-19-2010, 12:25 PM ... that it will take off like a scalded cat...
Hey Ted, by chance are ya a Newf? I've only ever heard that phrase on The Rock. And its been a while since I heard it. my dad used to say it a lot while I was a kid. :) Good to hear real world stats. 19.9mpg is about 11.8L/100km.
Ted White 08-19-2010, 02:43 PM No Woodchuckcanuck, no Newfie connections. My Dad used to say it when I was a kid. He was from the UK. As for the fuel stats, I should have put up the metric as well, but most folks seem to still relate better to mpg.
concours12000 08-19-2010, 08:06 PM Thanks Ted for the info
ordered my truck june 9 it was built aug 11 it is shipping status
My Buddy ordered june 16 the same truck different int. colour it was built on fFriday the 13 arrived at Dealer today
LanduytG 08-20-2010, 01:20 PM Well I pulled the trigger today. Went in figuring I would have to order what I wanted. They were able to find one with everything I wanted other than interior color. After I went and looked at a truck on the lot with that color combo I pulled the trigger. Should have it in the drive on Tuesday.
2011 ext cab long bed. Red with black interior. Can't wait to get it.
On a side note I was really considering a 2007 3500 crew cab long bed LBZ that was loaded with 34K on it. I bought new after the discounts for only $6k more.

WOW! Am I reading this right? You got a 2011 D/A for 40K (34K+6K)?
LanduytG 08-20-2010, 02:46 PM Greg,
WOW! Am I reading this right? You got a 2011 D/A for 40K (34K+6K)?
You are right. Its a 4x4 ext cab lb with the LT1 package, Hvy trailer option and a few other minor option. But I do need to clarify a little. My son in law works for Allison so I got all the employee incentives plus a got a coupon from GM for and additional $1K off. I just added the 6 inch steps and camper mirror swap so total less tax etc is around $41.5K. MSRP was a little over $48k
While typing this I just got a call from the dealer. They are picking it up Monday and I should have it Tuesday.
Greg
blizzardplowman 08-20-2010, 03:16 PM Mine is 3400 as of today, with a tpw of 8/23 :)
bayoubengal 08-20-2010, 05:38 PM Good for you. $6,500 that's the most I've ever seen come off of an "honest & realistic" MSRP. That is a 2500hd right?
Enjoy!!!!!

excaliber 08-22-2010, 03:56 PM No OBAMA Motors new vehicles for me. I'm looking at an older 07 Duramax built prior to the Government takeover.
I can't believe anyone would buy one unless they've had their heads under a rock or are a supporter.

...or some of us want a new truck....a new GM truck.... Everyone has their own opinion.. I'm not saying I agree with the govermnent bailouts or the president but I like my 2011 GMC Sierra 2500.
bobbss 08-22-2010, 04:50 PM I for one won't let Obama keep me from buying the new truck I want. It's not like he is designing them himself, and if he is then maybe I like him more than I thought.lol!

In case you haven't noticed. Options are limited in the HD truck market.
There are only three to choose from. And there are signifignant differences among those three.
I would love to see the day when other manufacturers get into the market, but I need a truck NOW. The Chevy has the most of what I want in a truck, so that's where my money is going.
It has NOTHING to do with my political views.
And no, my head hasn't been under a rock.
Thanks for your concern though.

Grow the **** up.
On a side note.....why does the year matter if you're buying a used one?????
fishprowler 08-22-2010, 08:31 PM No doubt, piss off troll. If you are buying an 07 go play in the LBZ forum. Don't come here and try and start fights. I can tell you 99% of people in here don't care about your negative opinion, so take it somewhere else.
Maybe you're just trying to justify the fact that you can't afford a new truck, and this is making you feel better about yourself. What a winner.
Ummm, don't have any political views on this B U T, I did buy a spanking new 011 LML CC/SB - 2 days ago - fire engine red, more damn bells and whistles than I can name... LT trim in black cloth (yuck color because it shows the dog's hairs)...
It was a spur of the moment decision... My 08 Duramax is a 2WD and I suddenly had trouble on the ramp getting the boat out (had to put it back in) We found out later (too late) that the brand new boat trailer that we were loading for the first time was built off dimension by over 12 inches making the tongue actually lift the rear of the truck instead of loading it (9000 pound boat) leading to wheel spin and swearing...
Anyway, I got a wild hair crosswise and went straight to the dealer and cut a deal - vowing I will never ever be stuck on a ramp again... Now I have buyers remorse (knowing that the trailer was doing me on the sly) - but it sure is pretty....

DuramaxNCSU 08-23-2010, 02:39 PM Hey Guys, I hit 3800 today and now have an official VIN # for my truck! I was just wondering, from you guys that have been using the tracking website, does it take some time to actually get the window sticker loaded up there? I have been trying to figure out why the site keeps giving me an error message when I click on the VIN link. Thanks
Ben

It took me right at a week to be able to get to see my window sticker.
Verndog 08-23-2010, 09:28 PM I'm seriously considering trading my truck and getting one of these new LML's. Does anyone know if the CA trucks are different as far a the emissions stuff? Or all they pretty much the same by the new Fed standards? Thanks in advance for your inputs.
Vern
Ted White 08-23-2010, 09:32 PM Vern, try not to get hung up on the emissions requirements. The trucks are FANTASTIC, and they go like stink. So fill them with ultra low sulfur diesel, low ash oil, and urea based diesel exhaust fluid, and ENJOY.
fishprowler 08-23-2010, 09:55 PM Agreed. Vern, it's probably safe to say that the LML puts out more power than you could safely tune your LB7 to in stock from. (Trans being the limitation of course). I wouldn't get tied up on emissions stuff either. If I could afford one, I'd be all over it.
mmaul1039 08-23-2010, 10:03 PM Hey Vern, I believe the diesel emissions standards are the same country wide, for personal dailey drivers they may differ for different(i.e. higher weight classes). One of my former patients was a programer for the D-max team for programming theDEF and urea injection. He said these new diesels will be as clean emissions wise as gasoline cars where up until 2006.
bobbss 08-23-2010, 11:27 PM :woohoo:I picked up my new truck tonight :D.I was only able to put a few miles on it tonight, but I think I'm going to be pretty happy with it.I can't wait to get to drive it more tomorrow.
Ted White 08-23-2010, 11:35 PM Congrats bobbss.
bobbss 08-23-2010, 11:39 PM Thanks Ted,it was a long wait!

Regen... What regen? We got urea, we don't need no stinkin regen...

Ted White 08-24-2010, 10:15 AM Don't know if you are jesting or not, but just in case, yes, there is still a regeneration process, but it occurs much less frequently than on the LMM. Less exhaust gas recirculation means less soot and fewer regens over a specific number of miles.
The cleaning of the exhaust now involves:
* A dedicated fuel injector is in the exhaust line to inject diesel into the exhaust during regeneration. In the LMM, fuel was injected in a complex manner into the exhaust strokes using the engine injectors. This does cause some fuel to get into the crankcase oil. The new dedicated injector in the LML fixes this "problem".
* The DOC (Diesel oxygen catalyst), same as in the LMM, is the first container after the engine. It produces oxygen from some of the NOX during the regeneration cycle to help burn off the soot.
* The DPF (diesel particulate filter) of the LMM has been replaced with a combined DPF and SCR (selective catalytic reduction) unit in which the urea injector is installed. The injected urea breaks down into ammonia which reacts with NOX (oxides of nitrogen) to break them down into nitrogen and water.
A NOX detector checks the outgoing exhaust and adjusts the urea injection as needed.
Result is an extremely clean exhaust.
Ahhhh haaaa...
Well, I was not jesting... I was/am aware they are injecting the urea into the reactor can...
I was NOT aware they were also injecting fuel - assuming (that word) that the urea plus catalyst was doing the total job...
How fast will I be going once it goes into afterburner?
Will anyone be playing the "Dangerzone" at 110 dB when I launch?
blizzardplowman 08-24-2010, 01:13 PM Mine was produced on 8/23, now to wait for transit ........
Hummbusa 08-24-2010, 03:27 PM I just got the call...its on the transport :D
I went to the darkside for a couple of years with a Chrysler 300 SRT8
LanduytG 08-24-2010, 09:47 PM Got my new ride this afternoon. 2011 DA LWB 4X4 ext cab. LT1 with heavy trailer towing package. All I have to say is WOW!.
When I got my 95 I thought it was a great truck. Then the 04 was twice the truck as the 95. Now I really feel the 2011 is twice the truck the 04 was.
Watch the breaks they really work well.
Greg
TqThing 08-24-2010, 10:21 PM I didnt think you could order a EX cab diesel yet?!

TrevorD 08-25-2010, 12:01 AM And they stink like stink, at least in ReGen. :D
The LMM trucks would stink in regen, but my 2011 does not at all. My '08 was ridiculously bad during regen and pushed me to rip the exhaust off quickly. My LML doesn't have a smell at all during regen. I only know from the higher idle and decreased MPG.
bobbss 08-25-2010, 12:19 AM congrats! It's been a long wait for you, but hopefully you think it's well worth it. :) I know I'm loving mine.
Thanks!I'm glad I waited for a 2011.Very solid and smooth feeling ride.I haven't hammered it yet, trying to get a few miles on it first, but the power seems good.

One dealer I went to told me the same thing. I didn't think that was right and now I know its not. I had 8 to choose from.

I think they started building them in July.
01Duramax6spd 08-25-2010, 10:17 AM I drove a fully loaded 2011 3500 dually on monday and I was very impressed with the stock power. My dually is tuned and this one stock pulled harder :D. If I could afford one I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Be fun to see what happens when someone comes up with a delete kit and some tuning :D.
Bigkrank 08-25-2010, 10:21 AM Watch the breaks they really work well.
Greg
My buddy just got a crew cab dually. The brakes WILL put you thru the windsheid.
Went out and put 50 miles on it this morning... Got the total to 200 miles... I need to tow on Friday and I'm not going to make the 500 miles first, but I can get another 50 tomorrow morning and 250 will be it, then it's show time...
After a loooong time of not trolling around here, i decided to check in on the new 2011 model and see what's up. Pretty impressive truck with more significant changes than in the recent past model years. So, I says to myself....self.......you may need a write off this year. Trucks are easy to write off. Call the accountant, fire that accountant, wouldn't answer phone for two days, find and hire new accountant. New bean counter has positive things to say of my little plan.
Called old dealer, my contact was gone, dang!!!. Local dealer has what I want at price I'm willing to pay. While fired bean counter wasn't answering phone my truck got sold to someone else who has good taste, dang!!!
Wound up on a GMC 3500 DRW 4X4 LWB Denali, Black on Black, it's in route, should show around the the 30th. Throw some goodies on that bad boy, sign papers, and we are off. Got my truck, a healthy write off, and a revenue stream.
I'm pretty excited about this one.
Keepin the LBZ, too good of a truck to let go of.
Now, what to do about emissions?
dane
Now, what to do about emissions?
*************************
Dane, keep the tank full of DEF and be happy... The factory upgrade in torque over my LML is noticeable... I see nothing that needs to be done to either emissions or tune... I will add a Fumoto at the first oil change... Other than that, I gonna just drive it...
Ted White 08-26-2010, 10:55 AM LOVE those Fumoto valves. Changing the oil without one is a pri-ck of a job.
Hummbusa 08-26-2010, 02:29 PM Finally got it. 2011 Chevy 3500 LTZ Shortbox.
So far it seem's improved over my other one's.

Thx for the insight, this darn truck deal put the supercharger for my car on hold so maybe ill put mod money into the car. Fumoto is the best thing ever, ill also add a nicktane filter and call it quits on mods
