: New Guy Here.
Timberwolf530 07-07-2005, 09:06 PM I just bought a 2003 GMC 2500 Crew cab with a Duramax today - 45,000 mi. I stopped by my insurance agents office to insure. When I got back in to go home, it was a little hard to start, then a block from home it died and would not restart. They had to send a tow truck to take it back to the dealership. I did alot of research before buying and thought I bought the right truck. Plus my dad has a 2004 Chevy 3500 dually that he loves. Please reassure me that I did. This is very frustrating, but at least the dealership is going to cover whatever needs to be done.
idahofox 07-07-2005, 10:33 PM Bummer, but welcome aboard.
I have an '03 and have had Zero problems.
If your Dealer is worth a damn, he'll have it fixed soon. ):h
Good Luck.

OUCH!!! Not a way to start out....
But, Welcome abord!! I have a '02 with 27,800 miles, bought it brand new, and no problems what so ever, you will not find a better, knowledgable group of individuals anywhere to learn and get information about the Duramax and Allison transmission and lot's of priceless information!!
Best of luck! :exactly:
Timberwolf530 07-08-2005, 04:28 PM Thanks for the responses. It's kind of scarry when you come on a new board and see all the problems people have been having. I just got rid of a Dodge Dakota and was on several boards for Dodges, so I know most people on boards are alot pickier than the general public, so I'm not too worried. Bigwheel, I think I read one of your previous posts that pointed out that some of the problems encountered are because of "over-modding" the engines. I agree and I plan to keep mine mostly stock. I can't see ever needing more than 500 ft/lbs of torque, but would be interested in mods that will increase gas (Oops, new diesel owner here), fuel mileage.
Maxter 07-08-2005, 05:45 PM I can't see ever needing more than 500 ft/lbs of torque,
:muahaha:Bill Gates once said 640kb is more than anybody will ever need; today; the average computer has 500x more RAM than this... we'll see about your mods in a year... Welcome aboard!
Jim659 07-08-2005, 07:33 PM Just stay away from those HP maniacs, they'll get you every time. They tried to get me but I held out and kept my truck stock.:muahaha: Thanks for the responses. Diesel Power 07-08-2005, 07:39 PM its probably something simple. My 02 has 65k+ miles, and run it hard everyday at over 450RWHP. i'd buy her again in a heartbeat.
TheBac 07-08-2005, 08:21 PM Timberwolf,
Don't worry about it.
Some vehicles just have separation anxiety from their previous owners....it's something simple.
BTW, I'm on my 2nd Dmax....
Tom ):h
WELCOME TO THE PLACE! :ro) I'm taking bets on how long you last before 500ft/lbs is not enuf....
Maxter 07-08-2005, 08:35 PM TheBac: 2-3 months tops... only 1 if he reads the forums too much.
Timberwolf530 07-08-2005, 10:42 PM I think I got the mod bug out of my system with my Dakota. As I've gotten older I've learned: More Mods=More Future Maintenace Issues. Maybe not right away, but definitely down the road. The dealership offered to give me my money back and let me start over. I'm thinking about it, but I'm not sure. I got a really good deal and I'm not sure I could get another at the price I paid. There's alot of Chevy's around here, but not many GMC's and I like the front end on the GMC's alot better(No offense to you Chevy guys, just my personal taste). I think I'll wait to see what's wrong with it. The service advisor told me "no spark or fuel in cylinder #6". I'm kinda glad there's no spark, it would scare me if there was. It scares me even more that someone who works as a service advisor thinks there's supposed to be. Did he maybe mean that there was no power to the injector? Could it be a bad injector? I told him that if it was just one cylinder that it should still run, just a little rough. As I am a relative novice to diesels I'm not sure, would no fuel delivery to just one cylinder cause it to not start at all? They were able to get it running, but as of the end of today, they didn't know what the exact problem was. Said they will let me know Monday. I'm bummed because I'm leaving on vacation for week Sunday and I really wanted to drive it.
BH in AZ 07-09-2005, 03:12 AM Timberwolf,
My suggestion, if you haven't already done so, is to post the VIN number in the VIN Number topic area to get the service history of the truck. This may give you an idea if the previous owner traded it in because the dealer was never able to fix this problem. Hope the tech is sharper than the service writer.
Good luck.
Timberwolf530 07-17-2005, 09:11 AM Well, I was on vacation for a week and the dealership figured out what was wrong witht the truck. It turns out these things don't run very well when they're out of fuel. It had a bad sending unit in the tank and showed 1/4 tank even though it was empty. That's why they could get it running, but it kept dying on them. I'm pretty happy with the dealership. They told me I could get a refund without hassling me.They offered a loaner car, put a new spare tire on it, and changed the oil for me while they had it in. They even cleaned it again inside and out. So, it looks I'll be keeping it after all. After driving it around last night, I think I am going to be very happy with my decision.
SteveNorCal 07-17-2005, 10:00 AM Timberwolf530,
So did they fix the sending unit???
Good luck with it and ENJOY!!!!!
TheBac 07-17-2005, 10:05 AM True..he didn't say if they fixed that....
Chances are they did. and at least they did some extras free of charge...
Tom
Black Max 07-17-2005, 10:12 AM :welcome: Welcome Timberwolf530. You're going to love your truck as well as this board. You'll not find a better bunch of guys willing to help answer any of your questions. Try the search function first, and if you don't find what you're looking for, ask away! Be wary of the dark side!
Timberwolf530 07-17-2005, 12:12 PM Yep, they did fix it. I guess I wasn't clear on that point. I'm sure they did the extras because they thought I was going to ask for my money back, but I appreciated it anyway. Any time you can come away from a dealership with a good experience, you have to be happy. I appreciate your help and I have seen the "Dark Side" already, but those kind are on every site. I don't even give them the satisfaction of fanning their flames anymore. They're best left ignored.
