: Evolution EGT probe problems
cowdoc 05-19-2010, 01:41 PM Hey Guys, does anybody on here have any idea what causes the EVO egt probes to fail ?
I just had my 3rd, 4th, or 5th one (I can't remember exactly how many of them I have had) go out over the past 3 years. Edge has always been great about replaceing them for free, but it sure is aggrevating to have to change them out. I run mine out thru the firewall and attach the cable to the firewall with the little clips that hold the plastic pieces to the metal along the top of the firewall, then down to the exhaust manifold. I am prety sure that there is no way that the little black box is getting wet. Could it be moisture? Should I run it a different route? Could it be the heat? Is teh cable long enough to get teh little black box in the cab? I am just looking for suggestions to keep this one from failing.
I'm all ears!
theunderlord 05-19-2010, 01:52 PM I've never had one fail... You've had 5 fail? Something must be going on then...
cowdoc 05-19-2010, 02:24 PM They even sent me a whole new EVO unit after the third probe failed thinking that it might be the problem insted of the probe. I guess we see how that worked out.
D/AChris 05-19-2010, 03:24 PM I had mine fail about a month or so ago. Called Edge, sent me a new one, no issues. But, this time I installed the probe with the black box inside the cab. Still had plenty of room to run the line to the coupler in the manifold. Time will tell, hopefully this will help since it'll be inside 100% of the time, with zero chance of getting wet. Chris

Hey Chris, where did you go thru the firewall and still have enough cable to reach the maniifold, or is your thermocoupler in the drivers side?
