After my post yesterday, I plugged in the hypertech programmer to see if there was a code . Progammer could not read VIN and said I was using the wrong programmer. Stopped at dealer today and their scanner could not read VIN. Tech manually entered VIN and attemped to reflash theft deterrent system. This did not work and VIN would not stay in memory, I was told I needed a $1700 pcm. My Hypertech programming didn't show up and tech said I was on stock program. Hypertech says that bad batteries would not have erased programming, and that dealer had erased it. Has anyone ever experienced pcm or programmer problems? Can I continue to drive without other problems ?

If running fine I say no problem there. If the GM tech not able to read and or write to the PCM it may have problems. But there is cheaper ways of getting a new ECM. Many of the vendors here that offer EFILive program ECMs for you. Only dealt with Nick from DuramaxTuner but also many others. Bad batteries will not erase the ECM. But erratic or low voltage can cause havoc on these trucks with all the many different modules.
