Its gonna be time to put new tires on my truck soon and I want to go a little bigger. But Im not sure which route to go. Do spacers effect your payload (how much you can haul)? What tires set up are yall running? I am currently running 215/85R16's. I use my truck to haul loads two to three times a week so Im not looking to but monster tires on it lol. I just want something that fills up the fenders a little better and is a little beefier looking. Any suggestions would be appreciated and some pics would be awesome! Thanks Guys

I think these trucks looks great with a 265 wide tire. If you get good spacers then you won't have to worry about them. Most people on here runs Fred's spacers. I've saw pics on here with duallies loaded 30k+ with his spacers. But anything over a 235 you'll need spacers. Anything under a 2" spacer you would have to cut your studs short. Most on here is just running 2" spacers. Do alil searching in the section you'll find all kinds of different sizes to see what ya like.

are you staying with the same height tire just going wider?

Alright after much reading I think I wanna go with the 265/85R16's with 2" spacers. It seems that more people are running 65/75's than 65/85's? Are there gonna be any downsides to running this new tires set up over what I have now? Will I see a big fuel mileage loss? Will I have to have my truck reprogramed for the speedo or anything else not to have problems? Can I do this with a PPE standard?

Your going to have to jackup your torson bars to run either size. The 265/85s will be lil over 33" and the 265/75s will be around 31". When I went to a 33 I lost bout 2.5 mpg. I don't know for sure but that PPE should change your tire size.

Im confused which number is the height and which is the width?

jtaylor11

265 is the width in mm. 85 is the height ratio. Here is the formula.

Width x height ratio x 2 / 2550 + rim size= tire height

265x85x2= 45050
45050/2550=17.66
17.66+16= 33.66" tall

285/25.4= 11.22" wide

Why will I have to jack up my torsion bars If thats the height Im already running just because of the extra width? And does it hurt anything to jack them up?

Your tires is about 30" tall. Those 265/75 you might not have to but the 265/85 you will rub alil. Cranking up the torson bars will make the front ride alil rough and also it would be a good idea to get the front end aligned also.

I am running the 265s and they do not rub - no need to crank anything. I ran 265s on my classic too - same thing - no issues. Almost everyone that I have seen that goes with 285s have to crank the tbars and maybe trim the valance.

One thing - on my classic - if you run front OEM mudflaps with 265s you may have to trim them because of the way they are designed, but that is easy and they still attach. If you go with weathertech or something like that instead of OEM ones they fit without trimming or rubbing.

I'm running 265/75 16s on mine with Fred's 2" spacer.. What a world of difference!!! You can look in my garage and check out pictures if you like?? I didn't change my torsion bars either. It rides a little high in the back but I don't mind. If your truly worried about it the sale a spacer that's really easy to install in the front spring..

I just put 235-85-16s on mine....I needed one 1/4" spacer per side when trailer on hitch to avoid touching at bottom buldge of sidewall

per the GPS..stock..2000rpm @65mph
now....2000rpm @68mph

the 4.10 gear is too steep for my use...so tires helped reduce that a bit

I am running 255 85 R 16 Open country MT's with Freds 2" spacers I haven't cranked up the torsion bars(will be installing the cognito torsion keys and shock extenders soon but just to level the truck), and I had to trim a little of the valance. They are a little taller and narrower than the 265 75, but they sure look good. With the 3000 lbs camper on the truck there is about an 1 1/4" between the duals.

Gonna bump this up and ask, where do I get Freds spacers ? I have a dodge I'm working on and he wants to run either 265 or more likely 285/75-16's. How wide of a spacer would I need ?

Chris, a lot of Dodges that I have looked at have more wheel offset, which gives them more gap on the duals. He may be able to run 265's without a spacer. I've been thinking about scrounging the local junk yard to see how Dodge wheels would fit on mine seeing that I have ZERO gap with 235's right now.

Here's Fred's website: http://www.wheeladapter.com/

ehh...nevermind on the 265's without a spacer. Just did the math and it aint happening without touching.

If you assume that 235 tires have a small gap between the duals and are 9.25" wide, and the 285 tires, which are 11.22 inches wide, then this would mean using a 2" spacer to keep them from touching.

Remember though, just because it says it's a 265 doesn't mean it's the same width or height as every other 265.
Every manufacturer varies so the difference can be extreme from brand to brand (and even model to model).

Best thing to do is if someone already is running the exact tire your looking at, see what they had to do to make sure they fit. Or if not find a spare set of rims and get 2 tires mounted up to see what happens.

And Fred's spacers are top notch! Great guy to talk to and knows his stuff too. LOL We talked about my home 1/4 mile for a bit....
