I have a question aobut mpg. What typical numbers can you get with an LLY unloaded highway. The pricing is so good right now I might have to trade in the gasser.

How does the 6.0 psd and the dodge cummins compare in the mpg department?

Welcome to the forum, at let me introduce you to the search button... its across the top nav bar.

But you can expect anywhere from 14.5 to 21 mpg on highway in the lly
I average 17 @ 77 mph to work and back (35 miles each way)

Ford is gonna be in that range as well, and I believe the cummins might be a little higher. All 3 have employee pricing till august...

In Diesel applications MPG's will be determined by your right foot... seriously!

Most on this forum report 14-16 city and 17-19 highway for the Duramax (I can manage 20 if I stay below 70 on the freeway)

The Cummins seems to be getting similar in town mileage to the Duramax, with 18-20 being commonly reported on the Cummins specific sites for highway miles

The Ford guys are hardest hit from what I've personally seen and read on forums. My friends get a constant 13 in the city and 16-17 on the freeway. Their results are very similar to what users in the Ford forums are reporting 13-15 in town 16-18 on the freeway with the 6.0

Hope this helps... and Welcome to the DP!

I just got back from a 300mi trip: mostly 75mph thru hill country with some city driving intermixed, ext temp was 90+degrees so I had the A/C on of course... got 18mpg.

On the highway doing 70 -75 I get 16.5. in the city 12 -13, towing a 6500 pound TT I get about 9 doing 70. Not really impressed with this part of the truck. I have 11000 miles on it, all stock. If I drive 60 - 65 while in Idaho I get 18 - 18.5. anything over 65 and it sucks the fuel.

My first tank hand cal I got 18.5, but this was doing around 60 mph from kellog idaho to boise id on highway 95. I just drove 1,550 thurs-mon on trip to california. As low as 16mpg doing 75-80 as good as 17.5 if keeping it 65-70. This was with 2 sport bikes in bed and quad cab full of tools and luggage. Fast as hell though and pulls up the hills and long passes like it was empty over donner pass through taho. I drove 65-75 on most of the flats and did 80 over the long steep passes. Being a show off I guess. It is fun hammering it and flying buy the cars like they are standing still with 2 bikes in the back going up the steep hills. :cool2:
I just bought the truck on july 1 and already have 1,900 miles. the dic seems to be pretty accurate so far. I run the tank empty and fill. I get about .5mpg hand calc bettter then the dic says.

2500 quad cab, 4x4, short box.

There seems to be a big hit from 60 mph to 70 mph on the DIC. It shows about 23 MPG on flat land at 60 mph with cruise control. If you have a light foot and don't mind being passed it's great on milage. It's all about RPM's. Next year with the Allison 6 speed the LLY should get better milage.
