Does anyone have any experience with these subs? I have a couple of 10"ers in a sealed .65 cuft box (as required by R/F). They perform ok... but nothing like I anticipated. Is it the sealed box or is the R/F subs that are not very good. I couldn't pass on the deal, Crutchfield was selling them at 2 for $100. Maybe now I know why!

Ski,

That is about the least productive post I could have possibly read. "Profile = junk"... what the hell does that mean? Is there some specification that my particular amp is lacking in? If so, how is it related to my original question? Is there something specific you are refering to or do you just have a hard-on for profile amps? I have read a lot of really positive reviews concerning them, but I am sure the people who wrote them were not nearly as well informed as you are. I guess before I make another purchase, I will try to find out which brands are junk and which are not.

jimbo, not trying to put down your system, myself and others replied to your amp in your other thread concerning your amp. i have seen a lot of amplifiers in 4 years of installs including for competition, including profile and others that have modestly decent ratings, but are junk as far as sound quality and output I ended up replacing for customers. it is truly a low end amp, you cannot expect to get good sound out of cheap components. i am trying to help you, tryout other amps at a local car audio shop and you will hear the difference. i am not going to detail all the technical reasons why the amp is inferior, for anything that costs less than $100

i will cease the posts as you choose not to listen anyway, good luck with the system

I am using a sealed box from http://subthump.com/silverado.htm (see the one on the bottom left). It has a volume of .64 cuft. The subs I am using are http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Sc6Vv6tf04K/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=67600&I=575P110S4 which require a .65 cuft sealed box.

My question was along the lines of the performance of a sealed box vs. a ported box (for which I have no room). I was wondering if the lack of "punch" was due to the box or the sub.

I am considering getting the same box for my truck, however, I am not sure if it will give the added punch I need/want.

I use a Kenwood amp, pushing 400 watts or so. One sub now, 10" in a bridged mode. I am using a PAC adapter off of the GM front end and using the built in cross-over of my Kenwood amp.

I originaly did an install using a line out converter from the bose signal. I changed that a few weeks ago to the PAC, the range of bass is better. Still lacking punch.

I need to update my install page to include what I have now done.

If I could only figure out how to get my two 12s in from my old bandpass box...Hmmh

Jimbo, a sealed box will be able to crank much higher volumes due to it being sealed and the cone not having to move as much but the trade off is the bass won't be as deep.

A ported box will be very deep because the ported waves reenforce the original sound waves,BUT you won't be able to crank it as high because the cone will be moving too much and eventually rip out the voice coils if over driven..causing distortion.

10's won't be that deep compared to 12's or 15's, but in the right box they can sound pretty dang good.

make sure to check the ohm your woofers are when wiring in parallel. You might be maxing out your amp by using too low an ohm. if your amp is designed for low ohms then it should be fine, but otherwise get some 8ohm woofers and wire in parellel, for 4ohms at the amp. It will run cool while putting out some good power.

Briano,

Thanks for a good explanation of what I should expect from sealed boxes. Now that I have read your response, I think I am getting what I should.
