: Fuel leak at back of block

My 04 D-max has developed a fuel leak right at the back of the engine block where it bolts to the bellhousing. The fuel is leaking right at the bottom of the engine/trans connection and there is no trace of a fuel leak higher up on the either.

It doesn't seem to leak when it's just sitting and idleing but will leak for about 15-20 minutes after a short or long drive. Seems to run just fine and starts up everytime.

At first I thought it would be a supply or return fuel line but I couldn't find a leak from either of those. Is there some type of fuel rail or pump inside the engine that could be leaking. I'm thinking that there has got to be a 15 cent o-ring that has split and is causing this leak. I did just have the injectors replaced about 3,000 miles ago. maybe it is a re-assembly issue?

Your thoughts Gentlemen????

When I replaced my CP3 pump and didn't get one of the rubber returns tight. It was leaking on top of the CP3 and filling the top of the "v" in the motor. When it filled up enough it would drip exactly where you are describing.

The way I found it was to remove alternator, and AC compressor, serpentine belt and intake. Then cranked the truck and let it run. after a few minutes you could see the leak. new rubber hose and clamp and no more leak.

How can I see if the "V" is filling with fuel without all of the disassebly? Is it possible to see it without doing that?

Well it looks like I'm going to have to break down and take the old D-Max to the Dealer to figure this one out. Hopefully they don't kill me with the bill and BS.

sounds like the same thing that happened to my 03. it was the fuel rail and the back injector line was leaking. gm replaced it for $900

taking the parts off isn't terribly hard, just time consuming. I've seen them leak at the rails, the distribution blocks, the cp3, and also the lines to / from the injectors. The injectors can also leak, with the fuel traveling inside the valve cover until it reaches the back, then leaking out

Thanks guys,
I had the injectors replaced for the 4th time about 4 months ago. At that time I noted a milage drop of about 1.5 MPG.

This leak is sounding more and like there is an issue with the injector installation.

I'll keep you posted.
