So, not sure why but when parking my Dually in tight spots, the steering box just totally laggs and sometimes I can't move the steering wheel. I've tried holding the brake and giving a little gas just to raise the RPM thinking just a little more RPM will help the power steering from lagging. Is this normal with diesels? never experienced that with gas trucks.

its the POS steering system. hydrasteer I think it's called. happens and is normal in 80%+ of our trucks.

Flushing the whole power steering/brake system will help immensely.

First thing I would ask is do you have bigger tires?
Either way, what does your powersteering fluid look and smell like?
Changing the fluid alone can help alot, and regularly before it goes bad will keep your ps pump lasting along time.

x4, it is surprising what a power steering flush will do.

damn, i can never remember my tire size, but not far from stock. when I went looking for tires i mentioned that i wanted no bigger than stock so i won't lose much torque. i'll try the fluid flush next, you guys know the best way to flush? hopefully I won't need to see a mechanic, would like to do myself. any sugestions???

That is exactly what I did, very simple and fully cleaned out all the old fluid. I also added some of that Lucas power steering additive just because.

It honestly helped quite a bit, much more than I first expected it would.

To put it more blatantly, I actually felt bad for neglecting it so long when I realized what a profound improvement was made.

Makes me think the PS fluid needs to be on the same flush routine along with changing the fuel filter and such.
