could use a little more info..you say you just got it..did it ever have any power, does it start out with power then lose it as it gets warmed up or does it just never have any power..have you done anything to it like change filters, or any other work right before this started..maybe just added fuel when this started..there are many reasons..and different causes for a problem like this.

I have the same problem with my 6.5D non turbo. I have to floor it to get over 40mph and as soon i let of throttle its super lame. New filters in my truck and it hasn't been drinking any oil.. It has been a bit lame all the time but now suddenly when i visited my pal it was like this. As far as i know it gets diesel all the way to Injector pump and return lines are fine.

It's a bit better power when engine is cold
Starts fine warm and cold (can stall and have real low idle)
Smokes from oil stick and the fill cap if i take it off
Last year it knocked loudly untill it was warm, this year no knock at all and less power..
Doesn't smoke black or blue as far as i know, so what the hell is wrong

Here is my thread http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370917

See what I wrote in his thread. It may or may not help but we really need more info. That is like going to the doctor and sayin...I don't feel good. Need more symptoms with as much detail as possible.

This is my update from 10 minutes ago.
I didn't run the car yesterday after i had loose the return lines.
And that seemed to be my fix ..

Well only way i checked fuel pressure is by looking when electric pump worked diesel to the filter. But it came air from IP return line yesterday when i had it running i had the line loose. i also used compressed air and blowed out the return lines. And after i did that i went out and get drunk :)So i didnt test the car before today! But i went for a ride now 5 minutes ago. Real sharp knock at cold and, and all the power was there. I went for a 15 minutes ride, and i had all power now even if it was warm. So i probably just had a BAD FILTER or AIR IN SYSTEM somehow from it sitting over winter, or a return line to fueltank that was CLOGGED. I dont know but it's running real smooth now :D

But i still have a bit smoke from oil fill cap when i open it, didnt smoke any from dip stick today ! Where is the CDR is it the thing in middle of intake ? It's the thing that makes my motor eat exhaust smoke right ?

Im always trying to do things the easy way while working around the motor, and i have been repairing gasser engines alot more than Diesels, This is my 1st so.. But POWER problem is solved atleast ! And the BLOWBY is a ? still. Engine can't be bad while performing this good now, and doesn't drink motor oil. TY all for ur response in this thread so far !

cool dadda....yea good idea to check the cdr..make sure hoses are good and it is clean not all stopped up or something..but i would wonder where the air came from in the i/p..check all the rubber hoses for any signs of cracks or loose clamps..a little blow-by is not bad ..but (a little is one of those things thats hard to describe)...as these trucks get older its always a good thing to check rubber parts like fuel and vapor lines..sounds like you already know what you are doing under the hood ..keep up the watchful eye...:)

I changed the electrical pump last year, and i also checked fuel hoses in engine compartment. New fueltank also installed. The only thing i havent checked is the tank selector thing under the car. It has Double tanks but im only using the new one ! I will have it as a daily driver now, so lets se how long it goes untill im back here ? :)

Sry for hijacking your thread lufootball19, and BTW how is it going for you ?

dadda...if you checked your fuel delivery pressures and they are all good..and from what i have seen you made all the other checks and all was good..and since you say it ran fine when you first got it the i dont think it a mix-up in your change over from model years (but i would move the fuel pump)..although there are several things that could be wrong from a change like yours it seems it was done right if it ran that long before problems showed up..i guess maybe next step is to remove i/p and take to a shop for testing

Ive seemed to solve my issue today. Ip return line was empty this morning, so i removed the ip return valve. And it was stuck in a open position. So i used compressed air and WD40 and cleaned it out. I guess that made all my issues because it runs fine now. And have a sharper noise and rattle, probably didn't it build enough pressure inside IP when return valve was in a open position !:)
