: starts fine when cold, won't start when warm

Good morning! I'm struggling with this one. When my 94 6.5L turbo diesel is cold, it starts and runs fine. It warms up and continues to perform just like it should.

However once I stop, it wont start again unless I spray a little carb cleaner in the air intake for a boost. Then it starts and runs like it should.

It cranks plenty fast with relatively new batteries and starter, no problem there.

I know I have fuel pressure as I have installed a pressure gauge just ahead of the injector pump.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I have a spare PCM and changed it. It made no difference.

When warm are you trying to start it with or without glow plugs? Was this a sudden change or did it just gradually get harder to start when warm?

I let the glow plugs heat up, they usually come on for a few seconds at least. It occurred suddenly. Thanks for the reply

Maybe the lift pump not running when you are trying to start the engine warm? But once you release the key it runs - just a guess. Otherwise I would say that it is something with the electronics.

sounds like the lift pump isnt working right, but that doesnt explain why it starts so good when cold.

Had th same thing happen. I wired my lift pump to 12 v and it never happened again

It is not the lift pump. It is 12v and runs when key is on. I see around 10psi on my gauge. New symptom. It stalls at idle once warm. I felt like Sandra bullock in speed driving home, could not let off the throttle or I was stuck

X2 bison again :D

When hot and no start, try pouring a bottle of water (not chilled, outside temp) on it and see if you can restart then.

Worn IP will cause no start conditions when hot.

Pour 1/2 liter of SAE W-30 in fuel to help a bit...
