: Tuner
dommer 05-14-2010, 01:30 PM I have an 2004 duramax and also have a hypertech tuner chip for it, i need some help figuring out what to tune the engine to for towing. I generally tow 15000-25000 pounds with it, dont want to go screwing around, so if anyone know the best way to tune for towing let me know thanks.
csmartindale 05-14-2010, 03:40 PM Tow tune or less...make sure you have gauges to watch EGTs.

X2 and 25K would be a lot for even that.

whether the truck is a "beast" or not does not matter. the max towing capacity for your truck is approx. 17,000lbs. and that is with a gooseneck hitch and approx. 13,000 from the bumper. \if you ever hook to 25k for any serious amount of tiime let me know because i dont want to be one the road while your doing it.
what load range tires? you have a goose hitch? sure doesnt sounds safe.
ercaduceus 05-16-2010, 07:36 PM I'm not sure I'd want to try to stop 25K with a pickup.
nccowboyLBZ 05-16-2010, 10:16 PM ive pulled about 20000 on the bumper before but i dont normmally go over 10 miles
fastorange 05-17-2010, 09:00 AM is it an 04 lb7 or 04 lly? i would hual with the stock tune. reason i say that is because you should beable to just floor it and not have to worry about it. start putting power to it thats when things start to happen
DSTRBD 05-17-2010, 02:09 PM According to Hypertech, you can tow safely in any of their settings.

Not to knock, but I would trust any tune on a 5spd and above 15K pounds behind the truck.
If you tow 25K behind that truck, do me a favor and call the local DOT. I am sure they would love to get a hold of you. You are overloaded and it carries a hefty fine.
DSTRBD 05-17-2010, 02:31 PM Yeah, I hear you. I have never personally put their claims to the test, but they sure do advertise that quite a bit.
meyerfarmer 05-17-2010, 10:07 PM OK, I just wanted to comment about the whole weight and DOT thing. It really is amazing how much these diesel pickup's will pull. My dad and I haul hay for cattle in the summer and we picked up some bales that the guy thought weighed 1600 lbs. Well when we weighed them they topped out at around 2200 lbs and there were 11 of them. This was pulled by a 1997 7.3 F-350 pickup. Now the DOT would have screamed bloody murder but we had no idea till we weighed them for the price at the local coop and found our weight to be around 30000 lbs. Thing is it happens and it's great how these trucks handle them. (As long as the trailer has good brakes!) Now since I own a duramax the most I have hauled is 17,500 on a gooseneck plus my pickup but as long as your a safe driver problems can be avoided. These pickups are amazing and I really find that the edge has been great along with the AFE Bladerunner mouthpiece. Haul on!
dommer 05-20-2010, 01:29 AM Yes one of the two trailers is goose the other is fith wheel. 25k is a range the heaviest one is fith wheel and about 22k. The goose is about 18k and yes the tows are more than a couple of miles. The tires should be a class d or e not sure exactly. I understand it's alout I weight but have been towing it for a couple of years with no complaints from the truck. If you were here and towed these trailers you wouldn't have any worries. All this aside cane I tune the truck safely or not.
Brian22601 05-25-2010, 10:22 PM My ball hitch has a sticker that says it's good for 25k lbs -- does that count?
