Well thats what my gauges say too.........FWIW. I am at 5500ft plus all the time. Yesterday temps were in the high 90's and on the short 7 mile drive home the fan kicked in and stayed on! That just isn't right IMHO.

My attitude shows slightly lower engine temps, even when towing, usually arount 194 empty @ Cruise, and 198-205 loaded. Tranny temps are about right for me 170-190 while towing and 160 empty.

Thanks Dudes... (and Dudets)

As much as this forum makes me paranoid about "this" breaking and "that" overheating...:blahblah: You guys also quell my worries. As I said I'm just puttin' around town and it may be on the warm side, but very stable. I guess the real test will be to LOAD it up and take a hill!

I now have 257 miles on it and every little "noise" is getting my attention... I've got to LET GO and enjoy the thing!

Thanks All...

seems like the tranny is more sensitive to air temp

the last two days its been almost 100 here in Salt lake. After 40 miles on the freeway, i start to climb the hills to my house. Engine goes from 195 freeway to 204 climbing hills (attitude). Transmission seems to run about 190 in the hot weather and creeps closer to 200 on the hills. In the morning 5:30 am on the way to work, same drive, the tranny never gets above 170-180. So yea air temp is a big deal.

I have never seen my tranny temp hit 180. Never once. Usually its around 120-130. Even sitting in traffic here in louisiana, it may creep up to 160 but as soon as I get rolling again it goes back down to around 125. Loaded is the same way. Maybe I got one of the good ones. I've never even heard my fan kick on.

Speaking of breaking in, I just bought a new 2005 Duramax last Wednesday. We will be leaving in 8 days for a 10 day trip to Butler PA. What is the suggested break-in for the engines. When should I change the oil the first time. I know when the dealer said just wondered if you guys had better ideas. What speed should I keep it at during the break-in. Is there anything to watch for during the break-in? If this is the wrong place to ask point me where please.
