: 1992 Diesel 6.5 2500 w/Turbo
Glen B. 07-07-2005, 12:37 AM Hello all,
This is my first time here. I have been having some trouble with a 6.5L. When i first start it up, it blows smoke and vibrates badly for about 60 seconds, but then run fine afterward. I am puzzled. Please :help: .
Thanks,
Glen B.
knkreb 07-07-2005, 12:40 AM Are we talking white smoke on cold start up? Or, another color for a long peroid of time? Smoke color is a sign of where to start.
Since you're a 92, you've got mechanical injection, unless it's been updated to electronic. Do you have any hard start issues when hot?
I would check glow plugs.
CanadianRigger 07-07-2005, 09:37 AM As MDT said, glow plugs.
bowtie 07-07-2005, 11:08 AM Has Someone mentioned checking the Glowplugs? :)
Cowracer 07-07-2005, 11:26 AM Glen,
Welcome to the group! Check out the F.A.Q thread at the top of the forum, as well as the Welcome New Member. Edit your signature to show the info on your truck. It will help in the future.
Lots of good stuff in here, if you are willing to go find it.
Tim
PS, I agree on the glowplugs
Haulin65 07-07-2005, 11:27 AM You might want to update your signature with this info, but how many miles? Modifications?
nvmtnlion 07-07-2005, 12:03 PM Hey, just a shot in the dark.. but check the glowplugs... :muahaha:
Glen B. 07-07-2005, 02:11 PM thanks for the help, its not my truck, i was trying to help my dad get some info. i mentioned the Glow plugs to him and he said he has nothingto check glow plugs with but said the owner of the truck said they were new. well thanks again for the help, i am not going to pursue it any further.60 seconds or less problems, then it runs like a champ, i wouldn't worry much with it anyway LOL.
16gaSxS 07-07-2005, 04:44 PM maybe the person who changed the Glow plugs didn't get the conector wires on tight enough or a wire is shot, the ones near the turbo get real hot and that could be the problem that one or two glow plugs are not working and the rest are.
bowtie 07-07-2005, 05:37 PM The glow pllugs can be check with a 12V test light. You can also use that to check for power to glow plugs from the relay.
Texas Diesel Guy 07-07-2005, 07:33 PM You could also pull them out and hook them up to a 12v source and see if they get hot, battery charger works good for that.
knkreb 07-07-2005, 07:56 PM What, ya got stock in GlowPlugs'r'us Corporation?
It must be a stacked deck! Now I know how that other guy feels that says everyone is a scam artist!
bowtie 07-07-2005, 08:07 PM NOPE Just having a little harmless fun and everyone agreeing with each other. If it was taken differently OOPPPPSSssss
knkreb 07-07-2005, 08:18 PM I think his OPS was working okay. LOL
