I am helping my neighbor's kid install a oil pressure and water temp guages in a old mud runner. It is the AutoMeter guages.... the questions I have.....
On the side of the crank case there is a plug.....would this hole be ok for the oil pressure....I am thinking not, it has to be on the pressure side of the oil pump....but were would this be on this motor?
The radiator has two plugs on the passenger side.....this now I am thinking would be a ok place to mount the temp prob, right?
Thanks for any info that will help us out.

The plug on the drivers side of the block will get you to the coolant. I would place my temp gauge on the intake somewhere if possible. If you put the temp probe on the radiator and you have a thermostat issue, it may not show up on your gauge. I would want to see internal motor temp. I have never installed an after market oil pressure guage, so I will not be of much help there. Good Luck!
On edit, I just talked to my dad and mentioned this situation. He said that you can use the plug inbetween cylinders 1 and 3 for the temp gauge and he said the plug for the sending unit on oil pressure is at the back of the intake, ON THE BLOCK. He said it looks like a top with one wire coming out of it, maybe around 3/8th of an inch. It could be a plug though if no sending unit is present, but I find that hard to believe since Oil pressure is vital. Hope this helps!

To elaborate a little... The water temp sender should be in the LH cyl head between spark plugs 1 & 3. Oil pressure port is right behind intake/distributor and is 1/8" NPT. You'll probably need a 1 to 1-1/2" nipple & coupling to get some clearance there.

Best place for oil pressure is underneath the distributor. That way you're reading the oil pressure that the camshaft sees. If that's not an option, use one around the oil filter. Above the oil filter on the block there should be some plugs - those are oil ports.

The thing is a tank! For the age she still has lots of power, and when your blasting through mud who cares what they look like.:o:
Just was long as it is not my babied GMC getting dirty.

Being rough is being perfect! Who cares if you scratch it or hit a rock or tree. I like it! Needs to be black though.

Been there done that! I have Dollar General spray painted several vehicles. Can't beat it. Finger gets sore after awhile. Have to get the trigger adapter. It gets better when you add graphics to the paint job. IE: Racing stripes, flames, etc. :ro)
