I would run a scan on the truck first of all and check for codes. You mention smelling trans; thats rare unless you have an external leak. Do you have any kind of power program? ould be just a fluke as your temps were not overly hot.

I would not worry at this point as your temps are in line.

Guna add another question here…
This last weekend towing about 6000 lbs through the Ozark Hills in southern Missouri in 95 deg temps my trany hit 200. I didn’t think it should be running that hot but even unloaded lately in the 90 temps its running up at 190 unloaded around town.
Is there anything to be worried about here?
I have changed the spin on filter and done a drain and fill on it since a got it with about 80000 miles on it.
I have been thinking of doing a deep pan, would this help much?

I have hit temps of 215(ish) and the allison didnt even b!tch about it. As far as a deep pan, I would imagine that it will help but I have no clue about them.

Don't do the deep pan and expect a lot. Get the Mike L tranny cooler. It's well worth it.

My 05 gets hot just driving around town lately, start & stop traffic temps will get to 200 degrees. To hot in my opinion, truck is not loaded or anything.
Temps here in central california can get hot. Today suppose to be 104 degress.
When freeway driving, stays cooler, due to air moving accross radiator & trans cooler.
So what is your guys thoughts on this.

Get the Mike L cooler. I know it isn't as hot here but my stuck in traffic driving (everyone's hot exhaust blowing through my stack) the tranny runs around 20deg cooler. With the stock tranny and cooler I used to hit 200deg sitting on the freeway. Now I'm lucky to hit 180deg.

Went from Houston to Garner State Park over the 4th of july weekend pulling 11.000 lb
5er. Out side temp was around 100. Cruise set on seventy the trans temp ranged from 220 t0 240. Called my dealer and asked if this was normal or should i bring it in. He said for the load I was pulling this was normal but let him know if it got above 250.
The temps were from the factory Guage.

You don't have to call him at 250. You will be there on a flatbed.

250 intermittent is still OK per Allison...I am sure it will not instantly break if you go above that magic number...reference the other guy who got to 260...
I have had mine in the Freightliner up near that with no ill effects...and I do oil analysis on every drain
