i have a '02 and '05.
the '02 has the same size radio as my old '96 sierra.
the '05 has the same dash panel trim as the '02- same holes for heater vents, ect.
the only difference is the radio opening is higher for double DIN and the climate control is lower.
i would love to put in a double DIN indash navigation head unit. i know i can get a motorized opening one, but would rather not.
the question i have is - can the dash panel be swapped out and the climate control switch unit be swapped out and fit the double DIN radio?

You'll have to go aftermarket on the headunit, BUT, yes, it has been done.

Someone even took pics...... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=220388&highlight=radio

i did the double din swap in mine and took like 4 hours first time i ever did it...all you need is the dash bezel from 03+ and the radio u want to use...u have to cut some tabs off heater control and redrill holes, and cut the mounting bracket where radio goes...i used that tech article on here and was out there was alot he didnt show or explain, but was still helpful to get me a rough idea...pm me if u got any questions

my dad has a 05. last night i tried both dash bezels in both trucks to see how to make it work. i came to all of the same conclusions.
to keep it simple, i'll go with the 03-up bezel.
i was just amazed that it would work with some retro fitting.

if you get the lighter piece under the bezel it will swap in no problems
