Has anyone ever ported their own fuel rail fitting rather than bought the PPE I mean it can't be that hard with a drill press if you go slow it's jus brass. Anyone have any ideas or input on what size bit to use or if they tried it.

No, I just spent the money and bought theirs. I would be afraid of opening the factory one up too much or too little and with my luck, my truck would go haywire.

I could see opening it up too much being a problem. But its already too small stock. I am curious also rather not buy it when I could do it myself.

The factory hole size works fine upto 700 Hp so unless your plans are for more it does not buy you anything. If you want to do it yourself just open the driverside fitting upto 2 mm and that's good for over 1200Hp.

Just found dieseltechs response a bit vague and misleading with the 700-1200hp comment:rolleyes: I do agree the Drivers side is the one you should drill out, not because you will see any ill effects from doing the P-side but because it's a PITA to get the fitting out of that side and the gain is minimal if any. The drivers side is easy to access and drill and has proven to be a worth while modd for many trucks running less then 700 WHP:) Also this is in my experience & oppinion based off my LLY. The ports are larger on the LB7's so there is no need to go any bigger with those to my knowledge...

I gotcha yea I just meant the hole size answer not the 700-1200 stuff that's really irrellevant to me but the hole size is good to know.

What would that be in standard size?

The PPE has an 1/8'' port in it- and yes you can drill it, but it isnt brass. GOOD LUCK-Steven

The hole size in ALL model duramax's are the same at .027" diameter. The difference comes from the way the tubing was run. The LB7 has a junction block that the CP3 feeds into then 2 lines come out. One to each rail so the restriction is in place at the front of each rail. On LLY and newer the CP3 feeds straight to the driverside rail and the passengerside rail is feed from the driverside rail. This means one restriction feed both rails. This would be the fitting on the driverside, which is the only one you need to enlarge. Do NOT go big as it will hurt performance and 2 mm diameter is all you need.

What is it made out of looked like brass but I didn't look really hard. I assume with a good drill press it can easily be taken care of?

You do not need a drill press, just pull the fitting, put it in a vice (Not on the threads obviously) And drill it out. Make sure you do not leave any burrs or filings in there. I spayed mine out with some PB Blaster and then blew it out with compressed air. It's really a simple modd, no worries;)

What is the main effect of doing this mod and what is the purpose? I doubt that I will ever see 700hp let alone 1200. I have read so much stuff in the last couple of days I cant remember what is for what anymore lol.

It helps you're fuel rail recover quicker and flows more fuel. The stock fitting is very small and feeds both rails which can be an issue at WOT with a big tune.
