: LB7 out, LBZ in, but no start

Just pulled the LB7 in my 2003 and put in the 2006 LBZ. Used all of the wiring harness and controllers in the engine compartment from the donor 2006 LBZ truck.

It shows Reduced engine power on the readout.

I didn't prime the fuel yet. Was going to flush a couple of quarts of tranny fluid out first then fire it up, but it won't even turn over. No click of the starter.....

The heater coil on the dash readout does not go off either.

I didn't get the filter box from the donor truck, so I just plugged in my old air mass sensor. Could that be a problem?

The fuel gauge goes to full even though I know its an empty tank.

Thanks,
Rick

Forgot the passlock feature. Will try the relearn next....... cross my fingers.

Not sure how that swap is going to work out for you. The 2003 used SAE J1850 protocol for the communications in the truck and the 2006 uses GMLAN. The dash may not work properly due to this.

I put in the 2006 instrument cluster and steering wheel. Well, I will give it a try tonight.

Well, it worked. The truck is running after the relearn. It still however has the fuel gauge showing that the tank is full when I know it is almost empty.

Any ideas anybody?

I'm willing to bet if you fill it up it will show near empty. The early trucks to the later trucks the fuel gauge runs the opposite way in the code. Glad it's up and running.

Thanks, is there a way to fix it? Reverse the leads? I don't know? I'm already backwards enough of the time.

Congrats on get her running. Let us know the difference of feel at the wheel between the LB7 & LBZ

Thanks Mike. I think I got the DLC (OBDII) port wiring figured out. Next to find the limp mode problem.

You would need to have the ECM reprogrammed for it to be corrected. Might want to hold off on that until you get everything else ironed out. That way if you need other things in the program changed it can be done at one time.

X2! just wondering why the swap? Tired of the LB7 injector problem or what?

Yes, actually I was going on the fourth set of injectors and I figured that I could have put in another motor for that price, so I got the LBZ, 6 speed and all the goodies to go with it.

It sure is gratifying to do it yourself........ and a little help from your friends, kids, neighbors, etc. :) And its a lot quieter. I put in hushmat (better than dynamat).

Do they make the hushmat in black? Sorry to hear your problem with the LB7. I love both my trucks but the LBZ is by far my favorite of the two. The LBZ in much quiter and has better power and fuel mileage IMO.

I am not sure, don't think so. But the foam sound deadener is black. You can see some on the top part of my picture. It has a pretty high heat rating.

As far as the truck, thanks. I limped it to the dealer to flash it. Hopefully it won't cost an arm and a leg.

Ok, the dealer reprogramed all of the computers. He came up with more codes than I had on my reader. I didn't ask him to reprogram all of them, just the TCM and the ECM. Any ideas where to look now?

P0650 Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) control circuit

P2128 Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 2 Circuit High Voltage

P2122 Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1 Circuit Low Voltage

B1440 Power Mode Master Input Circuits Mismatch

B2960 Security System Sensor Data Incorrect but Valid

B3031 Security System Controller in Learn Mode

U1000 Class 2 Data Link Malfunction

U1096 Lost Communications With Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)

B0024 Driver Frontal Deployment Loop Stage 1 Out of Range

B0826 ???

B0100 Electronic Front End Sensor 1 Performance

On the notes it show he reprogramed the Theft deterent module and the PCM. But after calling them back, the service writer said that he reprogramed all of them......

Tuesday it goes back to the dealer for a reflash. The 175 amp fuse for the glow plug control module was blown. So, do they reflash the BCM with the 2006 info? The truck is a 2003.

Thanks

Did you switch to the LBZ throttle pedal? If not you have too. I would correct the ones in RED first and see if that solves your running issues.

Thanks, the pedal and pigtail will be installed today. Three wrecking yards wanted $225 for them, but you can get them brand new for under $100 from GM.

Thanks for asking. I didn't get the clockspring fixed yet, so I figured that I had better do that first. The donor steering wheel was spinning freely on the trip home and I didn't know about the clockspring breaking.
