ok, I am about done, no I think I am done. I have about every part I need to put my 6.5 back together the perfomance way to make power except the "6.5 part". I just bought my 6th used engine Friday and Saturday morning I pulled it apart to see a small crack at the top of the cylinder and a crack across the deck of the block connecting the cylinder bolt holes:eek: . I am about done now. I cannot find a platform to build my motor and no one has any info to get a new block, just the block, like the new improved casting. If anyone out there has a 599 block that can be taken .020 over, let me know or all my 6.5 stuff is going on eBay and I am putting in a 24 V Cummins.

I have tried to get a block from probably 20 different core places and a dozen reman shops and a bunk of junk yards. All of them saying that they are not at liberty to sell "just a block".

Try Peninusular Engines in MI (616) 530-1298 or (616) 530-2567 http://www.peninsularengine.com/. They work directly with GEP (divison of AM General which is a division of GM) for their new engines. They may be able to get you a block, but probably pricey. I recently bought a long block from them. They were great to work with and very knowledgeable. I should have my engine install done this weekend.

The hummer block is not advertised on the site but its in every newpaper around here, guarenteed no more cracks they say.

I've talked to them on the phone about it. I don't have the number handy but they have a 1-800 number on just about every webpage.

Hmm, too bad, I just got rid of a 599 block with no cracks. I'll check the bone yard here to see if they have anything if you like. The one problem is shipping might be a bit high from me to you.

Chicago - what he means by short block minimum is crank, block, and pistons....
(in other words, no bare blocks)

all I need is a block, no parts, just the block (with main caps of course). JUST A BARE BLOCK!! No parts with it. I have three sets of roating assemblies pretty much.

FireFighter, where do you live?

Whats the budget?

So you have to get a block that will clean up at .020?

I have a 599 that will punch .030 in West Texas.

You're seeing what the rest of us have been looking at. The 6.2/6.5 block design is a typical Chev/GM JUNK design. What idiot designed ALL of the block designs to take out meat of the main webs for increased piston clearance and make a shorter block?

I've been snooping around looking at 350's and 454's and they're the same way as our 6.2/6.5 engines. The difference is a 10:1 compression ratio verses 22:1 of the diesel.

If I had a gasser (which I will soon) I would want a 2 bolt engine in anything GM, because of the obvious weakness where the outside bolt holes go, where they crack.. Ok, rant over.

I found a guy in Cali that has blocks for 100.00 plus 40.00 for cleaning, 40.00 to crate and 180.00 to ship so that is like 360.00 just for a block plus then I gotta machine it which will be another 300.00. I am just going nuts here that I cannot find a block somewhere local within like 200 mile radius that has a good block or short block (I really just need the block though). I would drive to get one that far. I dunno, normally I can find a deal anywhere but this 6.5 thing is kicken by butt.

Chevy diesel, why would you think that it needs .030? is it that bad?

You could get away with .020 on all but cylinders but #8 and possibly #6, but they could be sleved if out of spec. It's got the typical ridge ring all around the cylinder bore. I don't have the tools to measure the exact wear. I don't have the block in my possession, but have access to about 8 that are worn. I bought two recently and out of the two one was cracked, but I sold it for the rotating assembly (got my money back on it). These blocks are complete shortblocks.

I'm just guessing on having on that will work .030, I picked the best two out of the bunch, and one that I'm using for a build is going .020.

I gave 150 for each.
